Ok yes you can make that list but couldn't I come back with a 5 times longer 2 wheel drive list ? haha lets call truce and get back to the debate so we can see him buy a tacoma already.

I test drove the 05's when they first came out... but I have an 02' v6 auto with the deck plate mod and it's got plenty of up and go... not too shabby on hwy gas either 22-24 is what I get driving from Virginia to Atlanta. City mpg's I get 16-20 depending on how heavy my foot is...

When shopping, I noticed that the 2nd gen 4cyl is comparable in horsepower to the 3.0 V6 that was in my brother's '92 4x4. I thought that truck was fantastic, and it was the reason I have my Tacoma today.

I bought V6 because at some point I will own another boat and trailer. Torque and pulling power was what I wanted, (for my specific application) . I used to pull my old boat between 30 and 60 miles to fish at times, so V6 was my personal way to go. Now if I come across a 35 foot contender I would buy something "stronger"

Check my build thread...too much to list.
I know this isn't really along the lines of your question but I liked my 03 V6 compared to my 09 V6. Then again I did go from an Access Cab to a D/C. The body style does come into play though. Are you looking into getting an Access cab for both gens? If so I'd get the 1st gen V6 over the I4 2nd gen.

im not sure what the payload on a 2004 v6 access cab is but , and im just assuming, a 05+ 2TR access cab is a bigger truck and yes i know parts are made different (trans, rear end, motor hp/tq) but i would imagine that the 2010 4 banger could tow as much as the 2004 v6! and like i mentioned before, for probably $500-$600 you could get a gear put in the 4 banger and essentially have more power and torque then the v6 and get a lot better mpgs! and yes im still talking about a 2010 i4 and a 2004 v6

The 4cyl 5spd Tacoma 4x4 has been a benckmark for many years. Still is IMO. Like mentioned, towing anything heavy would be the only reason I would get the 6cyl.

Gotta add my $.02 here. I just pulled a Uhaul 8' trailer from Washington, D.C. to Chicago, and I took the scenic route thru the mountains of West Virginia. Well worth the longer trip; beautiful scenery! :D Let me tell you that, while it didn't breathe fire, my 2010 4-banger did a VERY respectable job of hauling that trailer up and down the mountains on the Interstate, and it actually had more low-end torque than you might expect.

The trailer had a cast iron stove, a big old antique Troy-Bilt tiller, and a freakin' PIANO in it, so it definitely had some weight. I still averaged 20 miles/gallon over the trip, and never once did the truck complain.

Gas is only gettin' more expensive- go with the I-4!

I feel that the 2TR is a little small for the truck but it does great off road and does get good mileage for a truck.

    I should be more
Specific here that to be comparable in price
I mean the 05 to 06 4 cyl vs 01 to 04 first gen v6 don't know if the year difference from 06 to 10 matters much?

What are you talking about? LOL.

The V6 in our trucks seems to have quite a bit of grunt considering I have the extra weight of the double cab!

I think that tacomas have a lot of get up and go. It depends what you compare it to. The oil company I work for has all F250 or Chevy 2500 gas pickups. I backed down a mildly steep grade and It couldnt even turn the tires. (It was a semi hairy situation) But I think even a four cyl. Tacoma could have climbed out of it. Regardless I would never buy a gas pickup over a 1500. From what I have seen IMO they are garbage.

I used to tow an 18 foot Pioneer camper with my 2001 V6 4x4. Can still smell the clutch burning.
