So, I kept hearing a "clunking" noise from the rear today when I was out and about. Here's what I found. Busted rear shock. I went wheeling about two days ago, and that's probably when it happened. When I wheel, I don't do anything hardcore. . . climb a few hills, cross a few creeks, and trail ride. The ONLY reason I can think of is my 2" AAL. I thought the rear 5100's could handle a 2" lift? What do you guys think? Here's a video of the sound, and a few pics.

I agree with Jamie it look like you might have topped out the shock, that would cause the shock to break, and the boot to slip off like it did.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
That's what it looked like you did the 5100 are not long enough to let your springs fully droop with out maxing out.

The 5100s are supposedly good up to 2" of rear lift. What size AAL do you have?

well there are 2 different part numbers and I think the other one is more aimed towards lift of 2-3" and the regular set are 0-1" IIRC, its on DSM website

Well, sorry for your luck, but such is life. At least we have this thread to link to now when people ask about using 5100s with a 2" or 3" AAL.

This is true. I guess it's better to break a shock you can afford than buy a shock you never use.

Rear Leaf spring TSB, Bilstein 5100's all around w/ front set at 1.75", 265/75R/16 Mickey Thompson Baja STZ's, Trailer hitch w/custom wiring, AFE drop in dry filter, Rear Diff breather mod, Debadged truck, customized stock TRD wheel center caps, added factory fog lights, bed mat, door sills, tinted windows
Downsouth is working with RCD who has the 5100's "made for them". What I understood is RCD had their own numbers, but the shock was the same from RCD or Bilstein. Not sure now, but from what I read on the Blistein site it seems they are designed for stock applications.

Just got http://downsouthmotorsports.com/i-51...ar-shocks.html these from DSM. They give me 27" of down travel and compress to 16". The shaft is 7/8th instead of the 5/8th that come with the toytec lifts. I will be testing them out this weekend. Measure your down travel and your compressed distance between mounting points and talk with DSM. They will get you set up with what you need. Also there is no spacer on my shocks that Lurry talks off.
