AHHHHHH That's what I did. I bought all four 5100's at once. So buying the kit come with the short 5100's? That's lame.

Lol for some reason this situation made me think of that movie. Also...this worries me, I hope I don't but one of mine, I'm running the same setup. Same day as your alignment issues too huh?

5100's all 4 corners, front at .85 with Eibach Coils, Rear TSB w/AAL, TRD Catback Exhaust, AFE Pro Dry S, Duratracs, redline hood struts, maglight mod, weathertechs
Whats the best way to flex out the rear to measure? I'm in the same boat. Got the front and rear 5100's and the rears are to short.

Take shocks off and flex the rear suspension fully. Measure the down travel compared to when on level ground.

5100's are a stock replacement... therefore not to be used with lifted applications

if you have lift, then you need to use either 5125's or 5150's... prob 10" stroke, maybe 12"

So wheelers, dsm, and others are falsely advertising when they say they are for up to 2" of lift, in the links posted on page 1?

yes. i blew a 5100 a long time ago, and i only had 1.5" lift out back...

the 5100 series shock is STOCK replacement... 2" AAL are not stock

I'm not arguing with you that they may not be suited for lifted applications, just saying that everywhere lists them as such. I've never seen a site indicate that they are for stock applications only.

all good man. you are right, everybody advertises them as compatible with lifted apps... but working and working off road are two diff things...lol

i'm of the mind set, better safe than sorry... going over board is being safe.

it sucks, but at least the 5100's are cheap and people arent out alot of money. and thats another factor too, the 5100's are only a $100 shock, if that... the internals are not going to be bullet proof. even little hits and jolts can blow a seal

    True true.

They are perfect for my application, as I don't take my prerunner off road. I have a feeling you have just made a lot of people reading this very nervous though

    damn... now i feel like a dick...lol

no matter what, when you offroad a vehicle you have to expect things to break. it's all part of the game. there are more people not busting 5100's than there are people that are busting 5100's... so number are on people side.

but if they are worried, sell the 5100's and get some 5125 or 5150. you know 5100 will sell quick on this site

yeah, that sucks. vehicle specific only refers to the shock valving and stock suspension travel as far as i'm concerned. bilstein didn't take into account lifting and after market item weight, so people can't expect 5100's to be bullet proof when they mod their trucks

as far as i'm concerned both are great vendors and i have been a customer of both. i would be interested to see what they say too, but regardless i still respect both of them as legit businesses

Don't feel like a dick! I'm just surprised to see the evidence that they do not accommodate all of the down travel from a stock leaf pack with 2" AAL. I'm all about good info getting out there.

Agree 100%. I'm wondering if it's a line they have been fed by bilstein.

the problem is when the truck is lifted the shock is extended more at ride height than it is when it's stock. therefore, there is less extended length left in the shock and they bottom out and act as limit straps when fully extended supporting the weight of the rear suspension and axle as it tries to fully droop.

    no bueno.
