And now to decide if I want leather. I like heated seats especially since it gets to around -27 deg F where I live. Not sure on leather with my small dogs. What quality of leather does Toyota put in their vehicles? All Tacos are aftermarket. I think the 4Runner offers leather. Anyone know if it's durrable and would hold up to some small 18 lb dogs and dirty offroading from time to time?

I know the 4runner leather is top notch. But I'm in Americana.

I am on the market for one... plan to buy on December 15. 4x4 Double Cab with TRD package. When will the 2012s be available for purchase?

Wish it had the new engine but I don't want to wait anymore... I test drove a 2011 and was very pleased with it and specially how it handle the f*up roads in Puerto Rico. This will be our summer vehicle while in PR. It will get beat up for two months out of the year in the beach and mountains there.

I have seen the Dodge Ram leather interior and it is really rugged. A friend of mine has one and puts his big dogs in the back seat with no problem. I have seen cheap leather in vehicles and don't wont to spend the extra $$$ if it wont hold up for 10 years or so with my little dogs and a little offroad abuse. as far as putting the back seats down, if they keep the hard plastic backing on the back seats it would be very benifical for me.

I've had two 2nd Gen Tacomas (06 and 09) without the JBL system........I see that they deleted the subwoofer. Did it suck?

Also, they didn't mention anything about the powertrain at all so hopefully we'll getting something Canada won't......eh!!

IIRC there was alot of problems with the sub. Besides for the money they charge you for it you can get a much better set up probably. I hope there's a change in engine or tranny, hopefully both.

Looks like it's leather and heated seats if it's offered in the US. Thanks man.

+1. That would be a nice option. No need for heated seats in the warm climate... but if it is only available with the leather then it will just be one button not used :p

I doubt that. audi/vw and now jaguar make some really impressive and efficient diesels but you dont see them selling in America like they do overseas. Americans in general aren't familiar with it therefore dont like it. Even though those clean diesels are more efficient than any hybrid, Americans wont buy them because it "the weird gas"

It's really a damn shame! Those vehicles with clean diesel is what we need, they have good performance and mpg.

+1 - the new diesel series coming out are excellent. Not your grandfather's John Deer... I have a '09 diesel X5 and it is great! Wish it was as accepted here in the US as it is in Europe

I'd love to buy a VW Passat BlueMotion as a commuter car. 105 hp turbodiesel, basic low-level hybrid system, a few percent cheaper than a Prius, 60-70 mpg.

Except that it's not offered in the United States.

When we DO get diesels, the price markup is way worse than it is in Europe. Usually loaded down with options. A Jetta TDI starts at $6,500 more than the base Jetta. That's a 40% premium over a base jetta. They can't put a diesel engine in a base Jetta for a reasonable price...why?

In the UK, Jetta starts at 16,965GBP. The Bluemotion diesel version starts at 18,410GBP, a premium of only 8.5%. They can put a diesel engine in a Jetta for only an 8.5% premium, but we have to pay a 40% premium here?

It is not that Americans won't buy it, it's that we don't have the same choice that Europeans do.

Part of the problem with importing diesels is EPA regs, which seem to be designed to repel diesels. These regulations and any other import taxes or other crap need to be eliminated or scaled back to European levels to promote the sale of clean, efficient diesel cars.

The Passat Bluemotion has that 105 hp diesel engine, additional hybrid energy systems (not sure whether it uses a boost motor), goes 0-60 in about 12 seconds, and has a top speed over 100 mph.

You really don't think that would sell here? No one who is buying a 65 mpg commuter car is going to think "gee, I would have bought it, but it didn't have a V8."

Put a diesel engine in the Tacoma and you could have the horsepower of the 4cyl with more torque than the 6cyl and better mileage than any of them.
