Just stumbled on this thread! Love to go, but might be heading up the Windrivers to do some backpacking that week and may not get back in time. But, would like to be put down as a maybe. I'll know more later. Sounds like a blast!

Both times i've gone I never used 4 wheel drive. Sounds like crossing the river was done in 2 wheel drive also.

For Friday, it is just dirt road. Bumpy dirt road (I wouldn't want to take a car), but it is graded. Up until the river crossing that is, which you can see how deep my 32" tires are in the water (so probably about 24" deep).

As for what we're going to do Saturday, I'm still uncertain. There are a few options like going up the graveyard flats a ways --Jason may want to bring his pruning sheers ;) This would probably be the easiest of the trails, hardest part being the start or maybe the couple of deep mud puddles. I think this would be fine with 2wd.

We might also be able to go up Miller Hill, but I've never been up there so not sure what to expect and there is a chance it isn't open to vehicles yet. I'm hoping to talk someone into running this with me this weekend, if its open. (it also starts really close to our camp site). No clue if this is 4x4 required or not. Based on pics, I'm going to say not.

We could try our hands at Mineral Basin, but I think thats more sliders/35's territory to be safe. I'm thinking that we might do a little playing around this area Friday night, but not actually worry about the trail itself much. This is more along the lines of real rock crawling, so it would be something for 4x4. I dont think there's anything extra difficult, but just mostly bowling ball sized loose rocks in the rock garden and some large rocks you can flex out on, etc. (Really close to camp site) Rock Garden pic: http://i406.photobucket.com/albums/pp141/dumassaim/Mobile Uploads/Resize_P090711_16_441000003.jpg

I guess if we'd prefer to do the whole scenic thing, we could drive over to Cascade Springs the back way. Wont be a challenge, but from pics, its something worth seeing. Never been there myself, but I do plan on it one weekend.

Don't worry Greg I will be there with my machete to hack away any limbs that threaten my paint. I don't leave home without it.

I'm thinking since I'll be running short on time and I'd be pushing to get to Cabelas by 6, and it's farther to come to SLC and then back up, I might try to come through Heber. Anyone ever try these roads? Will it be pretty obvious where I need to go or am I going to get lost on some faint two tracks? I don't have a GPS.
    Anyone going a HAM?

We'll most likely not leave Cabela's till 7:00, if that helps you much.

It will probably be shorter for you to come from the Heber/Midway side though.

A lot will depend on you, of course. I have taken that road a few times myself and it should be fairly obvious from that direction. Just a note, outside Heber/Midway, you will be going through the middle of a golf course. This is normal. The rest of the road will be a combo of pavement and dirt. I believe most of your dirt road road will be 1.5 - 2 car width.

The only real concern would be after the switchbacks and making a right at mineral basin instead of following the road. I know Mineral Basin is marked from the other direction, but not sure if you'll be able to see the sign from the direction you're going until you pass it.

I dont know of anyone that has a HAM. I, and I think several others, do have CB, and we'll most likely be using FRS, but both of those will be limited in the canyons. We'll be on 2 in both cases I think, but you will probably beat the evening people there.

Not me, she'll be with the kids. She'd probably love to go but it just won't work.
