How to build a shell hoist in the garage

Anyone have any how to's? I'd like one that can be operated by one person.

I like that idea too...I bet it would only cost around $30 to do that setup.

 

That is a great idea. Cheap, easy and appears very functional.

 

I built one for the Jeep. Put a 2x6 across the roof, lag bolted it into 3 studs for a total of 6 bolts. Put a big ole' eye bolt in the center of it. Used a hand crank, side handle winch bolted to the wall with a pull hooked to the eye bolt.

Welded up a "T" frame with a hook on the bottom of the "T" and tie strap ends tied into the ends of the "T". The hook would go hook under the bottom of the top (window open) and the tie strap ends hooked onto the side edges.

It worked fine, and one person could easily take the top off and on. We have since moved and I'm not going to put it up again because we're finally going to sell the Heep in a bit.
