I'm saying that I bought a truck and having done so except the fact it's probably not gonna get great mileage. I bought a truck for it's fuctionality not a boost to my testosterone. If you got that good for you, I wasn't offered that at the dealership. At the end of the day 2-5 mpg is not going to break me either way, I'm certainly not gonna change the way I drive and watch some meter to make sure I'm driving efficiently. If that"s what you're into great, it's gonna take a while to make that thing pay off. I will say though that according to my gps the 265-70-16 tires make the speedometer and thus the odometer about 2 miles an hour slow. I changed to 265-75-16 and it corrected it making my mpg on average 19.5 driving mostly hwy. with no meter and driving "all wrong".

Check out the "torque" app on the android. you buy a separate bluetooth obd2 scanner and it links to your phone, it does everything from estimate HP and MPG to scan and clear fault codes. I use mine all the time when I am driving the long haul, it helps me keep my mind on my driving and to not get too aggressive.

Is there a break in period for brand new trucks, and fuel milleage gets better after that, of is that all a myth?

how many gallons at fill up?

If I only get 300 miles when the light comes on I am at around 17.5-18mpg

the only time I ever got 21 mpg was when I reached about 340-350 miles on one tank at the time of fill up.

As I posted earlier in the thread,

At that rate, the $150 I spent on the Scangauge was "paid back" in five months.

I sure don't consider $400 a year to be insignificant. For some people, there's a car payment or a couple of semesters worth of textbooks or a couple of months worth of diapers.

Fuel mileage seems to rise a bit for the first couple of thousand miles. Usually by 5,000 you're going to see the mileage that your style of driving is going to get in that vehicle for its useful service life.

    my personal observations

Winter gas will kill MPG - tacomas do not like the cold weather and run rich and mpg sucks

Summer gas is better for mpg - tacomas like the warmer weather and get the best mpg without the AC on. AC on it drops 1-2 mpg

    Some of my scanguage observations.

Hypermile - drive the white line +.5-1mpg

Tailgate - let the guy infront of you take the wind + 2-5mpg

MT tires -2mpg AT tires go the best..or basically I'm not running anything less. Keep them hard but not overinflated and adjust for loads. Good luck, its a truck and not going to get much better than 20.

That's awesome guy! If you and your scano-thing could just get out of my way and not hold up traffic that would really be great!

    Hypermile?

And yeah my SGII showed quite a gain in MPGs when I turn the A/C off, but in the texas heat, yeah i think i can afford to run A/C...

Anyways thanks yall, i really like my SGII, pretty nifty tool.

Check out my Fuelly link on my page.

I keep my RPMs under 2K while accelerating, and usually stay around 65-70MPH on the freeway. I'll also coast up to a light rather than accelerate up to it and then brake like most people in my area. When I was working at Phantom Fireworks for the 4th I was traveling roughly 45 miles a day but pulling near 21mpg.

I don't think running the speed limit in the right lane is holding anyone up, but whatever.

Next time you fill up with gas, pay inside and "make it rain" for the attendant.
