Oh and Marcel, yes I sorta kinda have given fake drugs to patients. I simply start an IV, grab a saline flush (syringe with salt water, no drugs) and inject it into the IV tubing and say "Here is something for the pain." It's not a lie, because I don't say hey, I'm giving you Morphine. AND - every time - they say they feel better. No Joke. I do it to people I can tell are med seekers or dont' really appear to be in pain.

 

I guess that really would save you guys a lot of money, do you write it in the report that you salined them?

LOL I don't do it for saving money. Just once in awhile I feel a little squirrely and do strange things. I have to write it as it is. Yes, as saline. Every drop of narcotics is recorded. If I don't use a complete vial, I have to have a witness signature from the ER that it was wasted in the sharps container.

Oh - wow. That actually is pretty awesome there.

Ok. I won't name him Buford and take him away from you, I will make you whatever you want for dinner AND dessert.

Paperwork is very important. We get sued all the time. The books have about 8 pages to teach report writing. I have my own powerpoints and spend two full nights teaching it. Then I give a scenario, split them into groups and tell them they are being sued for something. Then each group has to get up and plead their case. I am the judge and choose the best. We have a saying in EMS.... If you didn't write it - it didn't happen. And it's true. If you forget to document something, you can never prove later that you did it.

I h8 paperwork, its soooo time consuming and just adds pointless amounts of time to the task. I understand the point and purpose but sitll
