I think this model does a damn good job in that department.

Camping (I am short enough to sleep in it comfortably), plus security and weather protection for whatever is back there. I live in a more urban area, so I like the security and dark windows for stuff back there, like mountain bikes, etc.

Really, it is a matter of personal need an opinion...

Just got back from a road trip, and having the shell on I could have all of our belongings in the bed, and not have to worry as much about it.

I recently put a shell on my 05 DC because its now our "family" vehicle when we go on trips so all of our stuff has to go in the bed. Without the shell it would suck. I recently bought a 5x8 trailer just in case I need to haul something like a couch or fridge.

I have had both hard and soft tops. Soft folds down in 3 minutes to haul larger items. The bad is easy to steal from

I want a shell to keep my belongings secure and for shelter if the weather turns foul when camping. But I also transport dirt bikes which will not fit in the bed with a shell. So... I want a shell that is sturdy and keeps my belongings secure but is also relatively easy for one person to remove or install. Amy I trying to catch a unicorn? Am I looking for what everyone else is looking for, but apparently does not exist by the sound of things around here?

when he can't dress up, OZ still finds ways to make himself feel pretty on the jobsite. He's a very resourceful chap.

Love having a topper. I have had one on the last 3 toyotas. Nice to be able to go on long trips with plenty of room for everything. Made some extra money hauling stuff for work(mail) and not getting wet.

Go with what U need. I like open untill it snows, but the undercover makes a great trunk & a cap I could make like a camper. I have no use for this but i just had to move 5 gal. water bottles and they will stand up tite with the Undercover (between the crossmembers. have on clue how it would be handy maybe for change.

i have considered a canvas top. because i too haul a dirt bike some. and i don’t like the looks of a cap. but i think it would be nice when traveling we go to new york like once a year and all ways have to put stuff in bags to they don’t get wet if we hit rain. it is a pita! it would be nice if i could just put the stuff back there. and my truck would most likely be the family traveler if we all 5 went some wear. i have the post people room and cargo room.

If you have a garage you can build a hoist to remove a shell. Just make sure you have it anchored well in your ceiling. I'm pretty sure Thule makes a garage hoist that can hold 200 lbs., or you can make your own.

I waited two years until I found a used Leer XR. It is 10x better than without a shell, especially with a roof rack. I can camp in it (a full size inflatable works well between the wheel wells, and my whitewater playboat always stays in the back in case I want to get out on the river.

    Not to mention extra security.

The leers are fairly simple to remove. Just four bolts. With a drill I can have them out in about a minute. I heard the Snugtop is even easier to take off, but I'm not sure.

If you do get a topper, get one with a side window that opens and a cab windows that folds down.

    Vehicle:
'11 DC OR Timberland Mica. 6 speed.
Leer 100xr with adventure package, duratrack's, weathertech's, demello sliders, billie 5100's all around, URD short shifter, Diff breather mod. Hiese lightbar. Grillcraft grill. PIAA 520 severere weather driving lights. Other random stuff as well.
My topper is on or off depending on what's needed.
Right now, when it's not raining and weather is good, i keep the topper off.
It goes back on if I'm headed camping, or weather is turning, or i need to secure things in the back. Great to have it, and great that its as easy as it is to take off and put back on.
