You can plug it into iTunes all you want, just do not update ANYTHING related to the phone that Apple says you should.

Here is the download link for the program, it's called GreenPois0n (best jailbreak in my opinion)

    http://goo.gl/8409F

Just to be safe, plug your phone into the computer, and make a backup of it on iTunes incase you screw up the first time. No need to worry. I screwed up my first 4 times haha. It's really easy though.

Once you make a backup of your phone, close iTunes, and turn your phone off, but leave it plugged into the computer. Open the GreenPoison file, and it will step-by-step tell you the button combo you have to hold on your phone to put it into DFU mode, which will allow it to be jailbroken. Hold down each button combo for as long as the timer tells you to. Once completed, you will see a bunch of random shit come onto your screen. Let it run it's course, and then the phone should restart.

Pic is a little fuzzy, but best I could do and get it under 100kb.

Jailbreaking it just makes it cooler on my opinion. I've done it to every iPhone I've had. Way more customizable, an free apps :) just don't update the firmware on th phone if you're planning on jailbreaking it
