what replacement lug nuts do you like?

thinking of replacing them all. my 21mm socket is getting un-useable with my beaten lugs.

any great all steel, un-chromed-sleeved lugs that we like?

using a 22mm in my driveway is not a problem. having a flat in the middle of nowhere, and my factory lug wrench not fitting is.

I got some Gorilla lug-nuts, black, with the locking nut. Good quality.

 

What part number and where did you buy them?

 

I just bought some mcgard lugs for my aftermarket wheels, but I remember seeing an option for ones that'll fit stockers as well.

 

Use a 6 point socket instead of a 12, it will keep your nuts in good shape....TWSS

 

I have the Gorilla's in black as well. You'll want 12mm x 1.50 RH conical seat. Summit Racing sells the set with the locking wrench for $64.99. If you want other colors, chrome, etc. they have those too.

But that's not for Toyota stock wheels.... are they??

Toyota stock alloy's take a shank with washer.

 

Our wheel lugs are 12mm conical seat lugs. If you want to go with TRD, the part number is PTR27-35100 and trdparts4u sells them. The washer style is just what came stock. As long as they are 12mm x 1.50" and conical seat you'll be good to go.

i would use a 6pt socket, i have quality sockets up the kazoo...but i got the truck used and cannot confirmed what the PO allowed on the lugs when he had the truck.

they are not in the best shape now..not from my doing. i just want a reliable "clean slate".

 

conical wont center the wheel correctly will it? my stockers are a shaft type.

 

The wheels are hub centric so they should centered from that not the lugs

Wheels are designed for use with either shank and washer type lugs (which have a flat mounting surface) OR conical seat lugs (which have a tapered surface) NOT BOTH.

Do not use conical seat lugs on wheels that are designed for shank and washer, or visa versa. It will lead to much less contact surfrace on the lug nut and wheel, increasing the stress on that given area, and can lead to damage of the wheels.

 

I almost ordered these but i'm assuming they are a pile of shit for this price?

As far as price goes, I tend to stay with good manufacturers mainly Gorilla. I have some high HP muscle cars and really the connectiong piece of wheel to hub is not where you want to go cheap.

Also check with the wheel manufacturer when you purchase aftermarket wheels, they usually recommend what type of lug to go with.

For your application, the ebay link above should be just fine.

 

For $40 more, I'd go with the Gorilla's. Those ones are painted and as soon as you put them on they will be scuffed to hell and show through. I've had the Gorilla's for 30k now with 6 tire rotations and no problems.

I bought some cheep ass nuts from O'rielley's. They were like four $ a piece. One time with an air wrench and it looks like they are stripping.

That's the more likely reason: never get an air wrench around lug nuts unless it's for removal. And maybe not even then.

Torque wrench is all that should get close to 'em.
