Thinking of buying a Tacoma

Just wanted to make an informed decision before I unload my 2005 Power Wagon for a Tacoma. It has been nothing but trouble for me since I bought it used in Jan 2011. It is all fixed now and there is nothing that needs to be replaced so I am thinking it would be a good time to sell. Can you guys tell me if there are any Tacoma specific things that I should look for as far as being worn out, broke, about to go, etc.? Any info you have would be appreciated. I have an 07' Taco, only issue i've ever had with mine was the blower motor for the ventilation failed. Once replaced it worked perfect. Besides that its exceeded my expectations in owning a vehicle. I've owned it since March of 2010

I traded a 2005 Hemi Ram QC back in Feb. for my Taco and love it! Better mpg's, easier to park and even cheaper on insurance. I loved my Ram don't get me wrong, had no major issues with it. The only things I do miss are the interior room, the sound (had a Magnaflow exhaust) and the sunroof. Of course I do have to admit if my Ram had been a 4x4 I probably wouldn't have traded it. I have always wanted a 4x4 Yota though. Good luck!

Is there a particular year or body style you were looking at?

 

2005 + silver quad cab SR5 TRD possibly already leveled/lifted to fit some MT tires under there.

 

I drove two Dodge 1500's that at the time were both a year old. One was a 1999 that I drove from 2000-2001 and one was a 2001 that I drove from 2002-2004. Both of them were loaded 4x4's 5.9 V8's... Both had MAJOR issues. Constantly in the shop. The first one had the tranny replaced and the front diff replaced twice. The second one had tranny issues and the yoke on the rear diff broke and caused the rear diff and drive line to be replaced. That happened while backing up straight out of a parking spot at a movie rental store.

I've only had my 09 for a couple months but love it. I haven't had any of the vibration issues other people have had. (the most common problem I've seen) I've put 4k on it, it has 18 total.

It gets way better gas mileage, 21 compared to 12, and drives better. It has more Power (230-240ish in the 5.9) My V6 is the same but weighs way less .. Dodges did have more torque .. which seemed to just cause tranny issues.

I had a 99 that Toyota paid me 150% of Blue book for since the frame was rusting. I used that money to buy a 2006 Access Cab TRD Taco. I love it. I have done quite a few small mods with help from this site. The only issue I have had is the overhead clock\thermometer, which was under warranty.

It is rock solid and will last a long time. It is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned and somehow, it has kept me from even looking at other vehicles. I used to have an illness.

 

Hey keep in mind with the TRD, it's mostly just Bilsteins and a sticker for extra money. It isn't like a Jeep where paying $5k extra for a Rubicon instead of an X (Sport) model is worth it; you get about $7-8k in aftermarket parts pre-installed.

 

buying a Tacoma is only half the cost then you have to buy all kinds of stuff for it, you know kind of like a woman.

 

My bad, I stand corrected. I forgot about some of that stuff, especially the locker, but for the reason you said. That's definitely the one thing I wish I had, but I'm pretty confident with my 4wd and a manual with that hill assists.

 

Go for it. I've had Tacoma's since 1987. No real major problems. Maybe small cosmetic things but as far as mechanical issues,none. So if your purchase fits your needs ,enjoy that new Toyota!

If you buy a Sport, the hood scoop will turn your brain to mush. You'll live in some gray universe where you can't decide if it's worth having or if you should trade someone for their non-scooped hood...

 

What purpose does the hood scoop serve? fresh air/water if you splash the hood intake?
