New guy, wanting another Tacoma

Hey guys (and gals), my first post here but not new to forums. I had a 99' Tacoma ext cab 3.4 TRD Prerunner and I loved that truck. I'm lookin to get another Taco bit I cant decide which one to get. I know its gonna be a DCSB but I'm not sure if I want 4wd or a Prerunner. its about a $3k difference between the two and in all seriousness I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much on a rig I'd do serious wheelin in. I'd did some decent wheelin in my Prerunner but something tells me I'm gonna regret not getting 4wd. As soon as I make my mind up I'm buying!

which model DCSB are you considering? base, SR5, Sport, OR? OR has the locker and is better than regular 2wheel (doesnt look like snow is an issue for you). if your not considering the OR i would get the 4x4 if you can swing the 3 grand. getting stuck sucks and its better to have it and not need it than regret not having something (kind of what im going through right now since i bought a 4cyl, but now am thinking i should have got the 6)

By Sport are you meaning the TRD package? I would get the OR package with the 4x4 or Pre-runner. The only problem is its pretty difficult to find an OR package around here. I want the locking diff either way.
I just got off the phone with my local toyota dealer and they are only coming down $2200 on a DCSB prerunner and I'm an employee at thier sister store 3 miles down the road! I got a much better deal than that on my 99'!

 

What I really want is a DCSB 4x4 with a manual trans but that damn near impossible to find these days. Damn automatics, I like changing gears.

yes, i meant the TRD sport package with the hood scoop. its a tough call, my truck has been suprisingly capable in many situations in 2 wheel drive without a locker, so i would imagine its even better with a locker. but there have been times that im really glad i have 4wheel drive. no experience with the locker though, so hopefully someone else can chime in on this. if you did do some wheeling would it be light stuff like dirt roads/logging roads? any sand or mud?

 

i think hes saying that he doesnt want to do any serious off roading in a truck that he just spent 30 grand on, but then again i think most of us have said that when we first bought our trucks....

 

Buyer's remorse is the WORST. Spend the extra money, I guarantee you it will be worth it. If you think you want it, you really do want it. Like i said, Buyer's remorse is awful. Pick up a late shift now and then. $3,000 isn't going to bump up your payment THAT much. Look at your budget, and see if you can cut back on some unnecessary spending (junk food, entertainment, etc.), and then re-think your decision. And when it comes to 4x4's, if you live where I do (7,200 ft. elevation in Wyoming), and you buy a 2wd, you get laughed at. 4wd is a necessity for trucks in wyoming, but if you wheel a bunch, GET IT!!!!

I'm gonna go later today to my local Toyota dealership and check out some Tacomas. I havent drivin one yet so I'm looking forward to it. I loved my 99' Prerunner and I cant help but to think I'll digg the new models even more. I decided I am gonna get the 4x4. I'll probably keep this truck for a while and I dont want any regrets!

 

Yeah it wouldnt be anything too wild, probably most stuff except rock crawling. I'd love a dedicated rock rig but i dont know of places around here to do that. My wife and I talk about building a jeep specifically for off-road but thats a little ways out.
