Had a fake scoop on my last Mustang - I will never, ever own a vehicle with a fake scoop again. Felt like a poser every time I got in the thing. I don't understand the appeal at all.

System = something for your money
Hood scoop = no function or value unless you prefer the looks of a non functional hood scoop

I'm not a big fan of it... I like my 2000, but my 17 yr-old son loves the look on my new Taco. When I bought my 2010, my salesman said that the scoops are what help sell some of these trucks and some buyers ask specifically to see only the scooped models. Most folks who buy have no idea they have perform no function at all, they just like the aggressive sporty look. Frankly, I could care less for the thing. I'd trade it if I didn't believe it would negatively impact resale value.

I made my scoop functional.....sort of.I used a large bore wood bit and drilled 5 holes across the front of the scoop (behind the grill). It allows air thru the engine while driving and vents heat when parked. No,its not connected in any way to the air intake system.
I also painted my scoop grill chrome silver.I like it !!

How does it "allow air through the engine" when the scoop location is a dead air zone?

The engine compartment is NOT a sealed system.Air moves thru the entire compartment from any opening including the now opened hood scoop.

well it also doesnt blow off my hood unless im doing 70 mph. not tryna say anyones wrong but im curious how you kno its a dead air zone.. i got a camaro wit a functional scoop and i kno STIs have them too. im sure they have been designed to function but for the tacoma scoop, how can you claim its a dead air zone unless you've seen one of those aerodynamic tunnel tests?
