I had to decide between the two as well. Frontier was about $1500 cheaper for a similarly equipped used model, and had a stronger engine. I had a lot of experience with Toys in general and liked the low maintenance factor. Add in the ride and interior comfort, and my problem was solved.

i like my tacoma better also worth noting....

nissan used to make a 4x4 regular cab that was cool the "hard body" i wanted a regular cab monster truck and this time i wanted to build it myself.

as much as i liked my 2002 fronty, there was and is virtually no aftermarket support for them. my nissan never gave me one lick of trouble and i beat the shit out of that one!

on a side note my taco apparently has a throw out bearing issue and a squeaky fan and has the frame of a corolla lolz...

i would have bought the frontier but, i could not find one on the ground at the time of buying that i liked color and option packages plus i really wanted the shorter wheel base of the regular cab tacoma.

loli had a 1989 for ranger with the 2.9 V6 and i loved that truck lol.

it's a shame about them though it's as if the ranger is ford's state adopted temp live in child and the only reason ford still has it is because it gets money from the govt. lol.

why have they never given that truck a serious redo?

i would love to see an ecoboosted off road oriented reg cab ranger bad ass.

Ford is going to stop making the ranger in december. They are focusing more on the f150 since that actually sells (and their raptor with a frame designed to bend if you hit something too hard). I had an 88 ranger that was impossible to kill, my friend's 2002 had 10 years of wear and tear on it by 2003.

Now back to the fronty taco debate. We had a co-bbq/meetup with TW and frontier world a few months back. They had some nice trucks but their number one complaint was the lack of aftermarket parts, and the price of the parts that existed because they were so rare. They had just as many common little problems as the tacoma, but nothing majorly wrong.

Unfortunately, in the quest for the almighty (or not) dollar, quality had to suffer accross a number of different industries. Since I have a son, the comfort of the rear seat, is what sold the Taco for me. Well, the resale and the looks helped too :)

By 2008, the Tacoma had become much more reliable than the Frontier. In fact, the Frontier is about the same as the Dakota and Ranger.

Note that reliability is a relative term. The top-ranking Tacoma had 109 problems per 100 vehicles. The top-ranking full-size truck, Tundra, had 118. Ford F-150 (also with five stars overall) had 122 problems per 100 vehicles. See:

Ford got a 5.9 billion loan from the US government in 2009. It was a line of credit to keep the sharks happy, restructure and fund some more efficient power trains (IIRC) Prior to the economic bomb going off, they borrowed 7-8 billion (IIRC) from various creditors (private and public) to restructure and tool up in Europe.

Not that it matters though, Ford's a decent company, and they got smart about things a few years before the economic bomb went off.

I have owned a few Nissans in my days, but never a truck. Right now, in terms of pickup truck market share, the company is mostly irrelevant.

what is the Nissan's resale value next to a tacoma? I would check that out I have always had good luck selling my tacoma's less than a few days and all of mine have sold for high book or a little more. Check consumer reports and see what people are saying, you allready know what the faluts of a tacoma are. just do your homework. It is still a better choice over a canyon or a ranger anyday.

get what ever vehicle you think makes you happy. but, consider this, in 10 years, the tacoma will sell for about 3 times what the frontier will; and, more importantly, it'll last 10 years.

Based off what data? Nissan's are very reliable vehicles too.

Why don't you let the mods decide to lock old topics or not? Just because it is old, doesn't mean it's not relevant. Also, you're not a mod, so let them do their jobs as they see fit.
