Well I'm patient but I also had expectations. I don't settle when I buy a vehicle. It's going to haul my ass 30k a year :D 2-3 hours everyday of the worst Seattle traffic ... I want what I want lol.

I didn't want a MT, and did want at minimum the best SR5 package. I guess I settled on no tow package... add that later and don't have anything to tow right now anyway.

OP-Drive 300 miles if its gonna save you thousands of dollars. I drove about 4 hours to get mine, and I saved $4900 from what my local dealers were asking. Plus, the drive back is extra nice in a new truck!

My last 4 new car/truck purchases were all factory orders. I never buy off the lot as you either get a bunch of crap that you don't want and makes the dealer money, or you have to add extras that you do want and makes the dealer money.

Do your homework on line, print it out with the prices/costs and head to the dealers.........if they can't get what you want, leave them a copy of the printout with your phone number.........they will call!!!!!

I always try to buy local and support my local dealers (and I tell them that), but the bottom line, I want to save my cash.

On one new purchase I flew to Portland and drove home, on another, I flew to Boise and drove home.........on a Craigs List purchase I flew to Medford and drove home..........all great trips and I saved a ton of cash over local dealers!!!

$500 is a standard deposit for a dealer to transfer a car from out of state. They won't go to the trouble expense of trading a car with another dealer just so you can see it.

Unless some day i have money to just throw away, i'd never buy new... You can get really good deals on slightly used trucks for way cheaper than the new sticker price. just my .02

Like others have said, be patient. This can't be stressed enough. If it takes a month then it takes a month (or more) but in this market if you have patience you will save some serious money. You name your price. Stick to it, walk out, visit other dealers, lie about what other dealers have offered. Lie, lie lie. That was my formula for getting the price I want. The second a salesperson opens his mouth he's lying to you, you have to do the same.

As someone stated earlier, check out truecars.com. This was an invaluable tool in allowing me to find a dealership that was selling mind for $1001 below invoice (before rebates.) Granted, I had to travel an hour and a half down the road to pick it, but the local dealers couldn't touch the price.

As for finance rates, I financed mine through Toyota for 3.22%. Only did that to take advantage of a $1000 rebate for recent college graduate and $500 for military rebate. Financed it two weeks later at credit union for 0.99%.

After all was said and done, I paid $25,800 OTD for a 2011 PreRunner Double Cab SR5 w/ V6, towing package, etc. The comparable slightly used ones in my area were selling for that, if not more.

Visit truecars.com! It's a hassle-free, no negotiating way to saving you money!

Maybe so, but when I bought mine I looked at a couple used ones, one in particular that were about 1 year old and had 24k miles, were asking more than what I paid for my brand new one and mine had more on it. Maybe I could have chewed them down on the used ones, but I figured they would have more room to come down on a new one. Anyone have any knowledge on this? But the big thing was I wanted the blue tooth that came with the JBL, the used ones didn't have it. Not sure when the blue tooth came out on these truck though.

Almost always more room to move on a used vehicle. Every dealership has the same new Trucks. Not every dealership will have the same used trucks.

I am definetly going to keep shopping because I never intended on spending sticker price+ delivery+ processing+ tube steps ($500). All the BS that they kept tacking on at the end just frustrated me more and is making me lean towards buying used far far away from the toyota dealership.

I understand fully that they have to make money but I felt they were trying to hook me on my first big vehicle purchase.

I just picked up mine a 2011 Black Double Cab Long Bed Trd Sport, tow package and floor mats for $30,867 out the door, tax tags etc included. My friend knows the GM at a local Toyota dealership and come to be it, he was the GM who sold me my 07 Tacoma. Long story short I got it $800 below invoice. I just kept telling him to sharpen his pencil =) LOL

I have verified email quotes of $30553 from two San Diego dealers... and in San Diego, its a tough market to negotiate on Tacos. The truck is a white TRD OR, DC, locking rear, ATRAC, etc...

Go the email route to start. Build your truck online and send out the requests. You'll get a few bites. Use my quote as a starting point... because if youre somewhere other than socal, you should be getting AT LEAST this good of a deal.

Depending on where u live and how many people there like tacomas is the main problem. I just bought a 2005 DCLB sport 4wd. I love it, but i got it with 90k and i lookd for about 2 months before i found one. I paid 17 g's for mine but it was owned by an old man that had every maint. record done by the local dealer..it was worth it to me...good luck:D

How old are you? Salesmen see a big juicy steak when they see younger people walk on the lot. They know they have less experience and are more likely to buy their BS. If they start pushing you around you have to push back early and often, or else risk getting run over by them. But remember you always still have your middle finger and your legs to walk the hell off their lot :)

I am 20 which I know is young but I am a serious buyer on my own. VGT that exact truck that you got is what I was quoted 32,800 for and I didn't get to see it before I made a deposit and signed that I committed to buying it. I am definetly looking harder into used. Thanks for all the info
