So I go to start my truck just now to go to work, but it wont start. It makes a "click" sound when I turn the key over, but is silent after that. I just hooked a tender up to it because my dad took my jumper cables just last week out of town :(

Do you still have interior lighting when you click it over? If the lights, or the clock goes dead... surely you have a dead battery. If not, I'd suspect other things.

Tight, yes. Clean, a little. Small amount of corrosion, but nothing more than usual.

Well, just got it started after 10 min on the tender. It made the same "click" when I first turned it over, then it hesitated for a half second and started up. I hope I can get it started after work!

Still on the original battery? The original battery in my Taco lasted for about 5 years before it died.

My original battery when at around 45k miles. Go take it up to autozone or advance auto parts, they can test the battery for you.

Dude you are having some bad luck lately...Kinda feel bad for you with all the problems happening at once. When it rains it pours. Look at the bright side, at least you will have a bunch of new stuff that you won't have to worry about for a long time.

Well just tried to start it at work.... Nothing. I believe it's the battery. Lights won't come on.

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
If you replace the battery and your truck still makes that click, your starter contacts are getting worn..I'm not 100% sure on 2nd gens..but on 1st gens you can rebuild your starter for about $16-18..

    Goodluck:cool:

Ok thanks. Now I just gotta figure out why my battery died. I've had this one for only a year. Odd thing us, my flip screen was open when I git in the truck. It usually closes when I turn the truck off

Okay folks. First things first. This is not the original battery. It's maybe a year old.

Okay, I had to get jumped off at work to make it home. I drive 20 minutes home and cut it off for about 30 seconds. I try to crank it again, NOTHING. Not even a "click" All the dash lights are flickering, so from what I've read, it's the battery. So it's sitting on a tender over night so I can make it to an auto store in the morning.

You might want to try cleaning the terminals really well. I had a very similar issue earlier this year. My truck didn't turn over in the morning, I had it jump started and I drive about 40 minutes (25 miles) to work - should be enough time for the battery to charge up a little. Once I got to work, I turned off the truck and tried to start it again; and nothing. I got a wire brush from work and cleaned my terminals (which didn't seem dirty to me). Connected the battery terminals back and turned the key, it started right up. I haven't had any issues since.

Just clean the terminals well, even if they don't seem dirty. It's quick, easy and you at least eliminate that from the possibilities.

    My .02 pesos.
    good luck

Thanks. I'll try that in the morning before going to get a new battery.

No problem. I bet you that'll be the issue. Let's hope so.
It sounds exactly like what I experienced so it leads me to believe thats your issue. I'd be anxious to do it now; even if it's night. that's just me.

Not sure. I've heard people say coca cola will work. But I don't know. I'm sure the best thing is to physically scrap off whatever crap is on the terminal. If you don't have a wire brush, or one of those terminal cleaners, some sandpaper should do the trick.

Holy shit man THAT WAS IT! I got some aluminum foil and scrubbed the terminal down, and then got some baking soda and water and watched it fizz a little. Tightened it back on, and TADA! Thanks again :D
