I just bought a new (to me) '06 AC and since I love it I am of course also spending all of my money on cool stuff...already upgraded the stereo, but seeing as how I'm planning on doing a triathlon in a couple of months I'm now looking for a bike mount. I've seen several by Yakima and Rocky Mounts that use the bed rails, but I was wondering if I'd be able to mount them, since my truck has a factory tonneau cover (one of the roll-up kind). Im not planning on mounting the bike with the cover down, but it seems like I wouldn't be able to get the mount on the rail with the cover installed. Anyone have any tips? I don't want to constantly be removing/interchanging cover for bike mount, but I also don't want to drill into my truck.

How about a hitch mount bike rack? I've got one from Thule but Yakima and a few others make them also. From personal experience, I'd avoid the Thule one...

Pugga - definitely an option but I'd much rather mount it in the bed if at all possible for cost and space reasons.

RMA - that'd be awesome. Looking forward to the pics.

I have the rocky clutch SD mounts installed on the channel right behind the rear window along with the access LE soft cover. It works really well!

With no bikes i can have the cover rolled up or not without any problems.

With the cover rolled up i have no issues getting the forks onto the bike mount!

    strongly recommend this setup.

Here is what I use, the bar locks onto your truck and you just clamp the front forks into the holder and it sits nice and safe in your truck.

Is the bar made by Thule as well?

You should not have a problem with the Rocky Clutch mounts and the factory roll up tonneau cover...as long as you have the bed rail system. If not you can always get the Yakima's and mount them to the bed with some bolts. It really isn't a big deal to drill into the bed to mount as long as it looks clean. I am running The Rocky Clutch mounts with the Truxedo Lo Pro QT and it doesn't even come close to touching the mounts when laying flat. There was no drilling involved with my setup.

Hi, I have an '07 w 6' bed and bought a bike mount system from Rec-Rac ( 719-634-2876) that uses the rail system and lets you keep front wheel on. Love it.

I am now looking for a tonneau ( roll-up) cover that will work with the rail system and
not require me to remove it or my option to carry my bike. Don't know if the latter exists but check out rec-rak... leftyj

    Just bought it!
It's hard to see from the angle of the picture how mine actually mounts, but it works pretty much just like Bluesteel's. I'm not sure what cover he has, or if his mounts are just longer, but my mount doesn't extend far enough to get past my Access Vanish cover. It was an easy fix with a 1.5x1.5" piece of wood that I put between the mount and bed rail. Eventually I'll replace it with a nicer metal spacer but this is what I had in my basement already. Works perfect.

The bike mount also doubles as a bumper when I move motorcycles. Even though my cover rolls up it's still in the way of a front wheel resting against the front of the bed. I would normally have to remove the cover, but instead if just push the front wheel up against the bike mount and strap it down.
