Possibly trade in my new 09?

Ok so about a month ago i bought a brand new 2009 prerunner std cab with the 2.7l. I love the truck, its great in all aspects.....but i just keep feeling like i should have got the v6.....i keep on and on and on feeling like this. The 2.7l has actually suprised me of its power and i have no real complaints but the more i think about it i think i shouldve got the v6. I feel like i should just be content but.....

Anyway, if i was to want to trade my truck in for a possible used 2008 with a v6...how bad would the consequences be. I dont know how big of a loss i would take. Ive only put 800 miles on it and it looks the same as when i left the dealership, seriously. Im trying to make a decision soon and the more miles i put on it the less its worth. Please someone give some guideance..Thanks

 

instead of trading in your 09, try doing some engine upgrades like a CAI or exhaust or even headers, all those add boost to your engine

 

The only thing you can do is go talk to the dealership. You will lose money on the deal but I do have a buddy who traded in his '08 for a Tundra after 4 months and only lost $600 in the deal. So, go talk to them. Paying for a vehicle you don't like sucks and you will hate it every time you drive it.

Is the v6 really that much more powerfull? I mean i know its alot more but will i be that suprised? Considering it is a heavier truck from the single cab...

 

and I know the four bangers now are somewhat more power but they can't come close to a v6. Go test drive a v6 and during the drive just punch it. That's where you will see the difference right away. Then just think about having that same power to haul or tow. In my opinion same amount of mpg you lose vs. the power gained makes it a no brainer. Here in western Washington where we have mountain passes the v6 is great vs. the 4 banger. But this is my opinion.

 

It’s all about power to weight. I did the calculations and the V6 access cab has about 25% more horsepower and torque. Of course the trade off is a corresponding reduction in gas mileage and something nobody ever thinks about, less cornering capabilities because of the increased mass.

 

Seems like a bit of a waste to me, but then I love my 4 banger. I'd love the V6 even more, but I really don't have the money right now. I guess if you have the cash, and if you can get a good deal, go for it. I know I wouldn't want to be paying for a truck I don't like. This is why it's important to take your time, do your research, and make sure you're buying what you want/need in the first place.

 

Yup I would.... I really wanna step up to a V8... I keep thinking for the Same MPG I am getting in the taco, I can step up and get like 100+ more HP!!

Seriously, I'm getting 14-16 average.... the damn V8 Silverados, Ford F150 getting the same or even better 20ish with the cyclinder shut off @ 300+HP

I do prefer the Toyotas, I'm just saying that a V8 would be nice at that MPG... I mean if the Chevy's can do it and the Fords can do it, why doesn't Toyota go ahead and follow their lead. I mean the technology has existed for quite some time. Could be a patent thing or legal issues. But if Toyota comes with a V8 that does the same MPG's I'm getting now, I'll trade her in for it. But I agree, I wouldn't buy anything but a Toyo or Honda.

 

try and sell your truck on your own, then once you have go right to the dealer and get you an v6.

 

thats what i always do. Post an add for what you owe on your truck. Once you find a buyer you can take them to the dealer ship with you to get your v6. The dealer ship will handle all the paper work title tranfer and everthing. It works as a trade in and they finace it to the buyer.

I also had a GM product before I bought my Taco. A GMC Sierra 3/4 ton that was definitely more luxurious, rode just as good, and a hell of alot more power. BUT I wouldnt go back to that truck for the life of me. I am very content getting 18-21 miles per gallon, and knowing that my truck will drive for 200,000 miles and probably more.




For the OP, if you really want that V6 and you can afford/justify the loss, go get it. Although next time it seems as if you should test drive both the I4 and V6 prior to purcashing so you can avoid this type of situation.

I did test drive both...I didnt get to punch the v6 much out of respect for the car salesman driving with me. I was not through the roof with the v6 vs the i4. I definetely felt the power was there but here why i went 4cyl.....

1. 3000 to 4000 more for the truck.

2. and the clincher was insurance, my insurance quoted me 628.00 for six months on the prerunner i4 and 1005.00 for six months on the prerunner v6. So when i factored out everything the truck note would obviously be more which doesnt bother me...its paying that high insurance note for 5 to 6 years is what made my decision. I was just daydreaming again about the v6 which caused me to post this forum.

I almost went to chevy or ford but i...like everybody else likes the dependability of having a toyota.

A Tacoma will last 10 years easy, that's If her frame doesn't rust out first

 

Tell ma about it, if only I can get 20 out of her... I don't drive it fast or hard, very mindful of my MPG but no matter what, I can only get 14MPG every tank unless I'm doin highway drivin...

To the OP, as others have said, paying for something you don't like stinks! BrianR & Jasonh are on target for getting out of your current ride & into one you'd LOVE unless the insurance thing makes not doable.

As far as mpg, my best w/ a 4WD, V6 auto is around 18 monitoring through a scangauge, granted its winter gas, hilly terrain, cold the heater blasting, weight in the back & winter tires. Whew! ...my v8 4.7 vvti Tundra did 20 consistantly after break-in. My tacoma now has 26k. Maybe some day, I'm not too far off.

Back on topic, get what you want if you can swing it.
