Well, I know you combat types have a hard job to do, harder than I could ever imagine and you have my eternal gratitude, but the order has been given by the Commander In Chief. So you can say "aye aye sir" and carry out that order or you can get out when your contract is up. I'm telling you it's gonna' be alright, you won't be able to tell, just like you can't tell who's married and who's single. Castro Street flamers don't join the military and if they did? Put up with them like you do every other individual you don't care for.

Myself also being a christian except everyone for who they are and pass no judgment. The best thing about our govt. is the fact that we have "Seperation of Church and State" so you don't have to bring god into policy;)

Unfortunately, there is not enough of that seperation. If there was, there would have not been a need to remove this legislation because it would have never existed.

Nice try. Christian, eh? And where exactly in the Holy Bible does it speak of "accepting everyone for who they are" and "pass no judgement?" Does it REALLY say that, or is that what you've been led to believe? What Christian church/denomination teaches that from the Good Book?

Isn't that really the argument "in-name-only Christians" and non-Christians use to "school" devout Christians that Jesus taught universal acceptance and we should all just get along? Is that REALLY what Jesus taught or is that what the Holy Bible Cliff-Notes says? Is it also the practice of "your" Christian faith to use the the Holy name of "God" informally? I don't know about you, but to use His name informally in the Christian faiths with which I am familiar, is to blaspheme His Holy name. Just checking.

    Romans 2:1

"Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things."

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you (Matthew 7:12).”

"So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another." (Romans 14:1-13)

i hate to be the one to say this but,,, some of you are claiming to not be homophobes and the like but, complain about feeling weird around them and excluding them from serving their country.

for give my ignorance but, is that not balancing on that fine line of homophobic and prejudice?

i'm not saying i want rupaul to replace r. lee ermey here i just think that if they want to serve what the fuck i wouldn't give a second thought about it i really wouldn't.

Nice Google search. I'm not going to go through a litany of bible versus to explain how your response using just verses is not applicable in the context I was responding. I could fill the entire forum for days with such verses.

To clarify, the quote I cited above, "pass no judgement" is in relation to "accepting others for who they are." For Christians, expressing approval is in fact "accepting," which is contrary to the Word of God. As a Christian, why would I not always speak the truth as I know it in my heart; I'm obliged to. As a Christian, I can still love homosexuals as I love all human beings, but that does not mean I won't pray for their salvation, because without salvation, they are condemned. And I would never turn away from my door someone I know to be homosexual. I will always treat him or her with charity, love, and patient. We can love a person but not accept or condone their behavior.

There is no hate here. However, for Christians to associate with those who refuse the Word (the act of positive refusal, not necessarily ignorant denial), is against the will of God. As Christians, we are required to confront wickedness and inform those who commit it of the His Word. It is his or her own free choice to ignore the Word--not ours. To do so, we are equally condemned in the eyes of God. For the record, homosexuality is no greater sin than any other. And I'm guilty of committing many sins--and my Christian friends remind me (as I remind them) when we are doing something against the His will. We aren't perfect--we slip and fall in our faith. As for me, I just strive to be a better, more faithful Christian everyday.

There is a difference between knowing and understanding the Word of God and simply cutting and pasting random Biblical versus from a Google search to raise or rebut an argument. A common practice for non-believers.

The Word of God, as it is written, is whole and not parsed, and may certainly not be "pulled out of hat" by a virtuous Christian to make a point to non-believers. It is comprehensive and each verse is connected to a thousand others, and the aggregate is His Word. The truth is only revealed through careful thorough study, reflection, prayer, and even thoughtful discussion with other Christians. This cannot be accomplished in a blink of an eye or as fast as one's fingers may type.

Although, I'll give him credit, he was quite quick on the draw. He just missed the meaning.

Seriously? It's called a joke, Jim.

I served alongside many talented Sailors, Airmen and Marines...not to mention members of the Coast Guard and NOAA in my 26 years on active duty. I just tried to throw a little humor into a tense discussion.

I think you for your Service to our Nation.

Well, here's a winning bar bet for you.

Name the 7 Uniformed Services of the U.S..

    The first 5 are easy:

    Army
    Navy
    Marine Corps
    Air Force
    Coast Guard

    The other 2?

The U.S. Public Health Service (They wear Navy- style uniforms -remember pictures of the former Surgeon General, C. Everett Koop with the old-time sailor's beard?)

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - also wear Navy-style uniforms.

You'll win this bet 99% of the time. :)

Any officers who entered the Service post-Vietnam at the very least attended schools with officers from other Services and we trained together often as well as working together during deployments.

One of my best friends from my National War College year was (I say was because he unfortunately passed away 5 years ago) a Navy Captain - submariner. One day we were sitting in our section room chatting and I started a comment by saying "You know what I think?" Andy piped right in saying "Don't think, Mark. It weakens the team."

While I might kid about my fellow Service members, I respect them all.
