So, I've been wanting an xbox for awhile but have just never gotten one. I'm getting serious about getting one now but actually am afraid to because I've had two friends that got the red ring of death on their xboxs. I would be playing online for games like COD, Fifa, and prob some racing games. Due to this RROD I'm looking into PS3s instead.

I think an xbox would be better for me because more of my friends have xboxs but really don't want to deal with that stupid problem that xboxs seem to have.

My questions are...what do you guys like better? Whats your opinions on xboxs and PS3s? Which would I have more fun playing online?

    Thanks for the input guys!

And as for money...I don't mind buying a new system of each, as long as it's going to last me and make me happy! Looked into refrubed or craigslist systems, but feel like that would bring problems...I should stay away from those huh?

I've had my Xbox since 08, and have never had a problem. The online for Xbox is better in my opinion.

Ps3 is nice for the Blu Ray

    I prefer Xbox.
I generally prefer the games better... Not quite so difficult/complex to control or play; I play for entertainment, not to get pissed off because a game is too hard and I have to press a million buttons at the same time.
Also, the ring of death usually is caused by the Xbox overheating. Just make sure it's not enclosed in a cabinet and it's fine. If you are really worried about it there are inexpensive cooling fans that snap right on the back for extra airflow.

I have both. If I could pick one it'd be the Xbox. I like the controller better as well as the online interface and multi-platform games almost always seem to run smoother. I love the PS3, there are some killer exclusives and blu-rays are awesome but I'd still take the Xbox overall.

Plus the new Xbox's don't have the RROD problem from what I've heard.

Awesome input guys, and thanks for the quick responses. I've always wanted an xbox but figured I'd settle for a PS3 to avoid the problems.

So they do sell fans to keep the xbox cool? If I get one, ofcourse I want to do everything I can to keep it from overheating.

What do you guys think about the refurb or used (craigslist) systems?

PS3, for reliability, free online gaming (good for the casual gamer, if you play online games a lot then go Xbox), Blu-Ray and Netflix. :D

I wouldn't get a used system, especially not an Xbox. Refurbished systems should be ok as long as their coming directly from Sony or Microsoft.

You can get Netflix, I have Netflix on my PS3. I love it. :D

That combined with the Blu-Ray it's perfect! I play some games but I don't spend too much time online, so I'd prefer to not pay to play online. ;)

I got a used Xbox 360. The first one I had got the RROD, took it back to where I bought and they swapped it no questions asked. Later I discovered it was the HDD that caused the red ring and not an actual console problem. The shop I got my 360 from will repair or replace my console if I have any issues, so I'm not at all concerned about the Xboxs reliability.

I use my 360 for 8+ hours a day for gaming, as well as streaming movies through Netflix and music through Lastfm. I haven't had a single issue with my Xbox. As long as you keep it in a ventilated area they are perfectly reliable.

The Xbox 360 has better exclusive titles. Such as Gears of War, Halo, ect.
Former Playstation exclusive games like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy are on the 360.

PS3 has two advantages over Xbox 360. Free online gaming and a built in Blue Ray player. Everything else is purely personal preference.

Been through 5 Xboxes so far, knock on wood but my Elite hasn't red ringed in 2 years of me owning it.
