flowmaster 40 series question?

i just put a flowmaster 40 series on my 08 tacoma v6.... i think it sounds sick cruising around 1500 rpm's (low deep growl) but when i get on it and its around 3 grand i think it kind of has a gay twangy ricey kind of tone... im wondering if the muffler will "break in" and eventually sound better, has anyone realized a change in tone after a while, and if it will break in about how long will this take?

Sry i can't speak for the flows, but I put the TRD on mine, and the higher the RPM, the sicker the sound especially with load...

 

nope, that's the way it is... try a 50-series.

 

Which 50 Series? The regular or Delta series?

 

the 4 series will break in a bit after some time....it'll get deeper, but its alwqays gonna have that growl.................baffles man!

 

I put a flow 40 on my 07,wish i could tell ya but i cant hear it over the tires,lol.I need either a louder muff or loose the M/T's.hmmm

 

I put on the Flowmaster Delta 50 and it sounds awesome... Not ricey at all...

Keep the MTs and trust that your muffler is loud...

 

I have the Flowmaster Delta .50 and I think it sounds great. My kids say its too loud though.???

 

damn.....thats one of the quieter mufflers that flowmaster has. they'd really think a super 44 was loud then!!

 

I'm planning on the delta 50 for my setup... I like how it isn't too loud... (except for kids apparently...) lol

Yeah thats what I thought and its the reason I bought it so it wouldn't be too loud in the cab. But then again my lil girl is 6 and boy is 12. He doesn't mind but she always says it too loud when she's concentrating on her gameboy puppies.

 

not a stupid question........the muffler has baffles........which kinda deflect sound off one another, which gives it that growl.

oh...gotcha. maybe she'll grow into the sound.

i have true dual exhaust on my 65 dodge with the 40 series. They sound AMAZING at low rpm and are designed to kind of shut down when your rev heightens.

 

i had a 40 series on my 4runner, it was way too loud for me. i think someday ill try a 50 series on the tacoma.

 

its the chambers in the muffler itself that is what gives it its tone and helps with the function of the muffler

 

Don't buy the 50 SUV... go with the Delta 50... very nice

 

do you have a manual or automatic. I had the flow 40 with my 6speed and it did get a little ricey in the higher rpms especially with a intake.
