THE PLASTI-DIP MEGA THREAD!!!!!!

Did my rims and rear bumper. Left the center cap unpainted though. Did the chrome parts of the grille yesterday

 

Im doing my emblems right now. Kind of nervous that I just sprayed my red truck with black paint.

This shit better just peel off

 

it will, give it some time to cure and you will see that it comes off. you may have to pick at it with a tooth pick or of like kind, but it will come off with some "finess". Take care when within the "O" and "A" of your badges, you pick too close to the badge and the dip make come with what your trying to peel off.

Came off very easily. They look perfect. The black emblems should be an option from toyota

a buddy of mine is doing his this weekend. Now that you did them do you have pointers? Would you do anything different? From the picture they look good.

 

It rained the afternoon I sprayed them on, on the drive home and the next day too. Survived the wash today as well with zero issues so far.

careful, from what I have experienced with the dip and water, they don't get along at all.

 

Has anyone ever tried colored Plasti-Dip? I have a black truck, and was thinking about trying red, gray, or white on the valance. It'd be cool to see some examples, or I'll post a few of my own when I get it done.

crazy! googled the colors the come in. Found a spray clear coat!! lol
back to topic though, I have yet to see a different color of the dip other than matte black. I have seen on here red, it looks orange like or just not the right red on cam, but from what I was told, it's perfect in person. I would try none the less, and post up your findings. Curious as to see the yellow in play. Thinking of changing my color scheme to that or an orange.

 

depends on the weather. mine was VERY fats but I am out in CA where it's pretty damn hot. For precautions, I always let it sit for a day after painting. At most though, I have seen vids on youtube and they say let it sit for at least an hour or so after last coat. You can tell the difference though (when it's mildly still wet, not done setting, it doesn't sound like tape when you peel it).

 

Finally did the truck today. One can did all the badges and bumper with 5 coats, and enough for re-touches and still a drop left. I had to retouch the tailgate badge as the Toyota was hard to get a good coating. It cooled off later in the day and its harder to peel the excess off. But it looks awesome!

Lessons learned:

There are parts of the black plastic step on the bumper that touch the chrome, other places it doesn't. If I had my time back, I would have tried to wedge the places that were touching apart. It makes it hard to peel the Plasti-dip off with the tape etc. I had to touch up some spots after.

I also learned quickly to not go side to side over the badges where the spray was perpendicular to the surface. I turned the can so the spray was hitting the badges on an angle to make sure the edges were getting properly coating. I also pointed the nozzle up from under the badge to get at the bottom...opposite for the top of badges.

 

on a side note, I found this out today. the spray tip has a line tip on it. if anyone has ever used a city worker spray can, it's the same as that except the cap is different.

Hopefully I can explain this correctly, the tip has a nozzle that only allows a line, you can rotate this nozzle piece but you are only allowed a line.

 

My next mod:

Clear Plasti-derp my whole truck. With enough cans it should turn invisible, like Wonder Woman's jet.
