For others, there is also a sticker on the differential warning you to use the LSD additive or approved oil. There are just 4 model years with the clutch pack mechanical limited slip (2005-2008).

TRAC and auto LSD which uses the brakes rather than clutches to control wheel spin.

plus for a 4wd you get lsd in the front too

Just a follow up: AUTO LSD is TRAC in 2WD but without any engine output regulation (ie. more power and a stronger limited slip action). To help confuse the names, Toyota also calls AUTO LSD the "TRAC OFF MODE".

In H4, TRAC (as it is still called) has no engine output regulation (like AUTO LSD).

Yoytoda makes an excellent point that since 2009, all 4WD Tacomas have limited slip in the front and rear in H4 (4WD HIGH RANGE).

i think you meant to say that in 2wd there is engine regulation.

and to recap on my point of lsd front and rear on all 09+ tacomas this means my $18,000 tacoma has the same traction aids as a $30,000 TRD sport

you dont get anything extra except seats and color matched stuff with the trd sport over an SR5

yes but you have an OR i was comparing a sport to an sr5. still has the room the v6, trac. so the gap is much smaller between the sr5 and the sport compared to the OR which has real enhancement for traction like ATRAC and locker and start and downhill assist.

all worth extra money since it is easier to paint parts than install locker and atrac and other e goodies

That is what I was saying, just in this way...

What I said: "AUTO LSD is TRAC in 2WD but without any engine output regulation"

This is correct, because TRAC in 2WD has engine regulation (and AUTO LSD does not)... or more visual:

    H2: TRAC, engine regulation.
    H2: AUTO LSD, no regulation.
    H4: TRAC, no regulation.

The big problem (IMO) is Toyota uses the name 'TRAC' for both H2 and H4 limited slip, but between H2 and H4 they are different in degrees of strength.

Thanks for the comment and allowing me to clarify! Have a great day!
