too much transmission fluid? Dipstick reading inquiry

There are Four notches on the dipstick - what I'm presuming are the right levels for the fluid to be in between for Hot and Cold. At the moment the fluid level is a little bit above the last notch in the Hot zone. Is this acceptable or do I need to remove excess from the transmission pan?

If its just a tad over.....usually won't hurt anything. If its a quart over tho..I'd drain some.

 

what would constitute a quart over reading? - say the equivalent of the hot or cold "reading range"? - the space between the two Hot or the two Cold notches.

What is the correct way to check trans fluid level? I have a 2004 5VZ motor, 2wd. My dipstick has 4 notches .... 2 at cold and 2 at hot. I drained the fluid yester day and refilled with 2 quarts of touota type IV fluid. The manual say a drain and fill will take up to 2.0 quarts. The dip stick show below the lowest cold notch wiht 2 quarts.

Tell me the correct way to check the fluid. Should the transmission be in neutral, drive, reverse, etc? How do I ensure the fluid is hot enough?

 

Just gotta say.....manual is incorrect. With a drain and fill.....4 quarts will do it. As for checking.......after driving normally for 15 minutes.........check with truck running in neutral. Should be somewhere close on the hot marks.....but you'll probably need to add 2 quarts.
