They have medication for that you know....better learn to control those outbursts somehow.

I don't recall ever having a king size bed or room service on any 'camping' trip I've been on!

 It normally takes a lot for me to throw in the white flag on a camping trip but damn it was hot as hell last night.

It's a long shot but has anybody hiked Balsam Mountain trail and Mount Sterling Ridge trail in SMNP? Looking to do it in a few months and wanted to hear some first hand reviews. Or, any other high altitude hikes (4000+ft--Don't laugh Westerners) in the Smoky Mountains that are fun?

In the Smoky Mtns. I have done Chimney Tops and Indian Creek Falls. The view from Chimney tops is beautiful but the hike is pretty much straight up! You have to be part billy goat basically.

Indian Creek Falls is a decent hike. It has been a LONG time since I have done it but I remember the waterfall is kind of nice.

Just hiked Gregory Bald in Cades Cove. I believe its right at 4500 feet. The Gregory Bald trail is a little shorter and easier than the Gregory Ridge trail, both lead to the bald.

I've heard of Gregory Bald, how long is that trail? I'm wanting to hike out a bit on a Friday, all day Saturday, and a little Sunday morning to get to the truck, Maybe 20 miles or so.

Nice stitches on your finger there! Watch out for those open blades! :p Looks like a pretty nice blade! I am a S&W fan myself but have given Kershaw a look. Cant remember if you said in your vid or not... how heavy is it?

nice catch on the stitches lol some one had left a partially open knife in my truck and it ended up rolling under my seat and i found it the hard way. knife is roughly 4 oz. some scales say 4 others say 4.2 kershaw is a great company. i have never tried s&w knives. to me the top knife companys are benchmade cold steel spyderco and kershaw. they seem to have the best quality. gerber is ok but never seems to come with a good edge. and so far i havnt been impressed with browning knifes.

I agree on the Kershaw Knives, although i never had one for camping I have used them in Kitchens. So what else do you guys use for blades, I have the Buck 119 with camo hockey tape on the handle for added grip, Leatherman Wave multitool, and two different sizes of the Buck Parallex knives. I am thinking of getting the Buck trio, or a gerber knife today.

I haven't had any issues with my S&W knives. They tend to keep a pretty good edge. I do have a Gerber 2 1/2" blade that I normally carry with me and another Gerber 4". I do have to sharpen those fairly often although the newest knife (2 1/2") I have had since December (from the christmas exchange on here) and haven't sharpened it once yet.

Not sure how you guys sharpen your knives but the Lansky system is awesome...a little time consuming but you will get a super sharp edge with it.

x2. I HATE sharpening my knives... and I have a ton of them... Mainly because I have A.D.H.D. and cant sit still for 2 seconds... and I dont have the patience to sit there and repeatedly run a blade over a sharpening rock. lol

Nice review Dave, +1 for you. I need a new camping knife but have never handled a Kershaw. Ive heard good thigns but have more experience with SOG, Gerber and the old SAK.

Hope those stitches heal up... :p

I haven't had any personal experience with Cold Steel. I'm a novice to knives, I usually just buy what feels right in my hand and appears to be able to do the task I have in mind.
