HELP!!! I need to know what to do for the sec air filter...

Right as we speak i am taki9ng out he secondary air filter. and i need help on how far to drill and NOT screw up my airbox.


V6 4.0L

 

why didn't you have me over and we could have done ours together....

 

bump for someone that knows, and did what I say to do work?

 

I basically just drilled out the plastic rivets. Don't press down hard and you won't put the drill bit through the air box side wall.

 

Just let it drill it self? like very little pressure? and do i go in until the drill falls out of the hole

 

I just kind would put light pressure on the drill, drill a bit, then check where I am at. I know I started with a small drill bit to get a pilot hole going, then used bigger bits until it was the size of a rivet hole. I did the pilot hole so the drill wouldn't start wandering around. I think the largest bit used was 1/8? Can't remember 100%.

 

i was using the 9/64 until my dad saw what i was doing..

can you explain why to keep it in cause looks like to me that the main filter would catch 99% of the dirt that comes in. mine is gone but thats because i got a cold air intake

Just drill about a half inch in. It should pull right out.

Personally, I still believe that the secondary filter restricts airflow. Blowing 90 psi through it and barely feeling any air on the other side pretty tells me all I need to know.

But, Chris 4x4 may be right. But the way I look at it, most of the aftermarket set up's like TRD, K&N, URD, Volant and others, replace the whole stock setup all together. So if there was real harm to your vehicle from this Mod, why does Toyota willingly install the TRD intake under warranty. Im sure they know that it's rated as a non Carb approved product. Not too many of us buy these new trucks to go race the BAHA...

Take it out, leave it in, oh well. Good aftermarket drop in dry filter, no sec filter, should improve your throttle response a bit...
