Buzzing sound from passenger floorboard

I have searched high and low for a buzzing sound that I get from the passenger floorboard when at certain RPMs. This seems to be tied to the harmonic tones of the engine (vibration) but is not coming from the engine itself. It sounds like a plastic wire tag that is vibrating when the engine hits just the right RPM. I took the kick panel off and zip tied the exposed tages down, but that did not help. Went to the dealer and of course it would not replicate while there; however, next day it started again. I have not had time to get back to the dealer since. It is most noticable when in a higher gear with the engine at lower RPM. Anyone else had this?

I had a very similar problem (except the sound was coming from behind the dash/glove box). Just a little time and a bunch of zip ties and I knocked it out. The dealership couldn't find it/gave up...

 

Is it your ac fan?

 

If it's the same thing that many others have experienced, it's the wiring harness' behind the glove box. It's either plastic plugs that aren't tight or just wires that are taped up and not real tight. Zip ties fixed it for me.

It could be - that thread I sent looks full of '09s. And I didn't have that problem on my '06...

 

I had this same problem on my '09. Open your passenger door and make a fist. Gently tap the side of the dash board that would normal butt up against the door. Its kinda on the side where the AC vent is. If you hear the sound then you have the same problem as me. Sounds like pencils in a can rattling around.

I had to ride around with my glove box out and a broom stick and poke around till I found the noise. Turns out (for me anyway) it was the plastic bar that the glove box attaches too. I took a small bungee cord and wrapped around the bar and then pulled snugly and attached the other end to the body mount.

Fixed my problem. If you want pics I can snap a few.

Pretty sad when you have to use a bungie cord on a brand new truck, maybe you could send the pic to Toyota Customer satisfaction division.

 

Agree, but I will take that over my entire steering column falling off like my '07 Z71 chevy.

She got traded in the next day on my first toyota!

Not sure which suggestion worked, as I zip tied anything I thought in the wiring harness might be making the noise (behind the kick panel and also behind the glove box). I also used a large zip tie (in place of the bungie cord as suggested above) and no more noise. So, while I cannot say exactly which one worked, the combination of the two did the trick. It is nice to finally be rid of that irritating noise. Thanks for the recommendations !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I've owned over 70 cars/trucks in my life . I've never had to chase rattles and noises like this truck. My last Toyota for sure . Between the plastic tag buzz ,the passenger side airbag noise in the dash and the P.O.S. blower motor that the dealer blew off as a leaf in my air box when I took it in for my free (350.00) Toyota care service. Then thers the noisey valve train that makes it sound like an old M.G. ..I've gotten to the point where I'm copying Toyota service bulletins to take to the dealer just to try to get this thing right. I can't wait till this thing is paid off so I can sell it and get another dodge. Oh wait there the big pay off if I keep the truck 12'years Toyota will condem the chassis and pay me for my years of dealing with it and the rotten chassis. The only up side to this thing is that no matter what I get 20 mpg on the hi way
