Should I herculine the hood?

Don't laugh too hard, but I was thinking about herculining the grill and hood.

The grill used to be chrome and I color matched it a year and a half ago. WY seems to be hard on vehicles and it received some wind damage from a 'sand storm' of sorts. The paint on the grill and hood are chipped all to hell and instead of trying to have it repainted... should I herculine it? Cheaper, easier, and would prevent chipping. I was gonna at least try and stay with the lines/styling so it doesn't look like crap. What do you guys think?

Yes. I did my whole truck in it. If you don't paint over the top of it it starts to fade after about a year. You could even color match it to your factory paint. I also did the chrome bumpers on my wifey's 2500HD and just rattle canned it and it hasn't faded.

 

I wouldnt unless your gonna keep the truck for a LONG time... most people would not want to buy it after you do it is my bet... but if you going to keep it until the wheels fall off by all means.

 

I would do it in Rustoleum spray on bed liner I dod my bumpers, sliders and bushwhackers and it looks good.

 

I don't see why everyone cares so much about resale value. I build my rigs the way I want and I don't give a crap about resale I keep my stuff until the wheels fall off I don't buy a truck to build it and sell it I build and keep it.

 

the design you had looks like a car bra. just do the whole hood!

this. looks much better than the roll on herculiner. I did my grill and has been great for over a year now.

Yeah i find that retarded they pay off there truck and feel they need a new one because they don't have a payment any more I love not having a payment it gives me more money to play around with. i just don't see the point of paying so much for a truck just to turn around and sell it every few years for way less after you've made it your own.

 

Use 3M Carbon fiber vinyl.

 

I wasn't able to find a Tacoma with it, but found a Nissan. Maybe that'll help get an idea




If you do bedline the hood, i suggest doing it to the wheels too. It'll really help complete the look.

Is there any prep I need to do before putting bedliner on? Like removing the clear coat?

 

Yeah, if you get the kit it comes with a scotch brite pad. You want the surface rough sanded. If its smooth the liner wont stick, it needs a mechanical bond. so it will peel up.
By step dad took a brand new Super duty in for line X and they told him to beat the hell out of the bed first and the liner will hold better if it has a rough surface.

Slightly off topic... but I have to agree with you. Seems that many get caught in the "vehicle envy" or the "keeping up with the Jones" routine.

Sand it down (medium grade), acetone to clean, then about 3 coats of herculine/bedliner.

it also doesnt clean very well so just a fair warning. but doing it will add a neat overall look to the truck.
