    i think there needs to be clarification on this. The ones that preload are the ones that compress the springs...I dont see any issue on the ones that sit on top of the whole strut / coil housing??

    The ones that preload the spring do exactly what the 5100's do at settings higher than 0. It just preloads the spring, the amount of travel allowed by the strut does not change. The spacers that sit on top of the strut could potentially cause problems. If you bottom out the front end, the coil bottoms out before the lower control arm hits the bump stops. This forces the strut to take the shock of bottoming out rather than the rubber bump stop. If you do it hard enough, the strut can snap.

    I'm very new to the lifted truck scene and was originally thinking about going with the OME 3", UCA and Dakkar rear. With that said, if I'm only going to be on dirt roads from time to time and not wheeling would the above mentioned lift be safe? Also, would it be worth my time to add UCA's to this set up? Finally, would I be able to run 285's with minor trimming?

    Thanks for your help and sorry for all the questions.

    Add UCA's - YES if set at 2.5" in the front
    285's - YES with trimming, and maybe body mount chop. (I'm getting my body mount chopped next week.)

    spacers and blocks may been fine for awhile..its just the future you may have to worry about since u'll definitely fuck something up in the long run, well to my friends truck atleast. but your truck looks good OP!

    whats the difference in billys and spacers?your doing the same thing.preloading your coil spring.what type of shocks were broke in those pictures?

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    You may be doing the same thing, but they're not the same shock. One is designed for a lifted application, the other isn't.

    with a top spacer the shock travel should be the same.any time you raise or lower you could run into problems.

    if you look at the billys that broke they at the bottom of the shock has a long neck on it.this is the weak point.wouldnt blame the spacer its more the shock.

    The spacer causes the shock to be effectivly lengthend. Thus it will break when over extended. All the shocks for the second gens are designed with the small extension on the bottom. Even aftermarket coilovers. It gives clearance for the sway bar.

    No. Its the top plate spacers. Any shock with the top plate spacer will break.

    does anybody have pictures of other broken shocks besides this type.and this isnt the only shock that comes on tacomas.

    Isn't it a bit strange that alot of the dealerships install spacer lifts on the brand new trucks on the lot and will back up the warrenty if a problem arises with them? You'd think if they were that bad it wouldn't be cost effective to install them. My dealership uses rev-tec spacers on the lifted trucks they sell and say as long as they don't go over 2 1/2" there's been very little issues. I'm guessing most of the trucks don't see much offroading. :confused:
