Possible Substitution

I have read through most lift kit/5100/UCA threads on this forum as well as searched and I cannot seem to find an answer so I come to you for help.

I do enjoy the outdoors and am an avid fisherman and hunter so I will be doing some offroading but I would say that 98% of my driving will be on pavement. With this said, I want to make sure that my vehicle is "capable" and "safe" to offroad from time to time, I don't wheel.

I'm currently looking for a 2007+ Double Cad, TRD, 4X4 and want to throw a lift on it immediately after purchasing. With that said, I was originally going with a OME 3", UCA's and Dakar rear but after adding up the overall cost between labor and so forth I am re-thinking my options.

Now, because of overall cost, I'm thinking 5100's front with an AAL. However, I'm not sure what else I need to get to ensure my vehicle is capable. Should I add UCA's into this set-up? Also, I have heard that accomplishing 3" of lift on the 5100's isn't possible/safe, so in order to get 3" do I need to do my original "plan"?

Sorry for throwing so many questions at you at once but I'm royally confused and definitely new to the lifted truck scene.

5100s with AAL would be fine.

no need for UCAs

 

From my own experience, I have 5100's set at 2.5" (not able to get 3" with JUST 5100's) I just installed some UCA's because the outsides of my tires were wearing pretty bad, and I was tired of the "wondering" feel while highway driving. They work fine w/o them but UCA's give that comforting feel that you didn't cut corners.

I do believe you can get 3" with OME 885's and 5100's though (someone correct me if I'm wrong). then you would definitely need UCA's imo.

I also have a 2" AAL in the rear. Just over extended a set of 5100's though (Had the short version), so now DSM is sending me the longer 5100's for the rear.
