AAL install opinion

This is the first time I've installed an add a leaf, in the past I've bought the whole leaf pack. For those that have done the aal which method is less of a hassle. Completely removing the spring , or leaving the spring attached to the truck and dropping the axle to allow the install.

On the toytec instructions it says to disconnect the E-Brake cable and to add a small amount of grease to both ends of the AAL. Where exactly do I put the grease? top/bottom...Also, whats the torque spec for the center pin or do you guys just tighten as much as possible?

 

Never heard of putting grease..... I tightend my center pin to the impact wrench.

The U-bolts are whats going to hold the leaf springs down once a load is on the axle, the center pin pretty much just aligns the springs.

 

Drop the axle....

Yeah when I have leaf packs apart I always smear some grease in between all the leafs so they glide smooth on each other and don't squeak. And if the leafs are already on the truck, just leave em on it when you install the AAL.

 

Here's the pages from the 05+ FSM regarding the rear leafs. It has the tourque settings.

That was 10x easier than lifting the superduty.

 

and your clothes stayed alot cleaner too by not having to lay in that big puddle of motor oil on the driveway!!
