Would it be a good or a bad idea to remove my cat? Some people say it would perform and sound alot better, but others say it would perform poorly since the backpressure would be wrong. I need help!

Leave it. Unless you are supercharged, or running a turbo, youre not going to gain anything from removing it.

And FWIW, ALL back pressure is bad for engines. Thats why there isnt any. If the exhaust created "Back pressure", the engine would choke out when you gave it gas.

not really...every engine has some form of back pressure and needs a bit or its hard to keep running right.

I believe there is a thread on here about mufflers that shows how ones give more or less back pressure and you can see that some effect the hp in good ways and bad ways.

The only thing i can think of that you want as little to no back preasure on it after a turbo to help its efficantcy. But even then the turbo itself is giving back pressure.

Only cars without it are strait pipe(or like...no pipe) dragsters. and they have to sit and rev alll the time to keep the motor alive.

I would keep the cats if your in cali.

okay so i guess the removval of the cat wont help, what about dumping the muffler?
    any problems with that?
I dont want a check engine light or anything, i just want a smooth running truck with a deep growl

Backpressure is bad. SCAVENGING is what an engine needs. Different mufflers can affect that, and cause a loss, or gain in hp/tq.

Did you factor in depreciation of converted vehicle as well?
