The ap skid is not 54 lbs. My ap skid + transfer skid shipped together at 57lbs, and the transfer case skid is definitely more than 3lbs.

Never said I was bitching about weight. I have 500lbs worth of steel on my truck. The more steel I have, the less I have to worry

so does this mean i need to get the bud built ifs skid and mid skid to get the same coverage that all pros ifs skid provides?

how about atos? do you need a mid skid piece too to get full coverage?

are they kind of pointless to have without the mid skid?

*shrug* If the lighter-weight alternative is enough for me, why put on something heavier? I'd call that "common sense", not "bitching", but I'm not a total prick either. ;)

    LOL

    ---

May as well mention that today with the Utah guys I came off a rock pretty hard (I think all of the weight of the truck dropped) and smacked directly in the middle of my skid, and it did dent, but not enough to make any sort of difference.

so the answer to this is yes, to get the same coverage as ato and ap, you need to get the bb ifs and mid skid.

so now its between the ato and ap. got to decide by tonight to take advantage of the free shipping ap is offering.

If you don't need a 1/4" behemoth I think you'll be happy with AP. Although my one gripe would be it doesn't cover as much as I'd like. Still... if you're not getting too crazy in the rocks it will work well.

im thinking the same thing. 1/4" of steel, especially if and when i go for the full set is going to weigh my 4cyl down way too much.

ato can do a 3/16" version for a little less coin though.

either way, the AP for $269 with free shipping and comes powdercoated already seems like a sweet deal.

Where are you finding that deal? I know your a 2nd gen - but i don't see free shipping+powdercoating... Also, dumb question that i could probably search for... do the 2nd gen AP skids require their front bumper as well?

*edit* From their site. Too bad the 1st gen's 'need the front bumper from AP.

All-Pro's 05+ Toyota Tacoma IFS Skid Plate provides maximum protection for your Tacoma's vulnerable IFS third member and steering components. Fabricated from CNC laser cut, precision brake-formed 7 ga. plate steel, this skid provides the strength you need withoutt weighing your Tacoma down. Ships powdercoated black. Uses factory hardware for easy bolt-on installation. Ditch that factory skid plate and get the protection you need in order to have fun and peace of mind on the trails!

    ...wat?

Do you ever have people ride with you in your vehicle? Do they weigh it down and make it undriveable? Do you ever put stuff in the bed?

The only negative of additional weight below the load capacity is decreased gas mileage and...decreased load capacity.

Trucks are made to carry shit people. The difference between a 57lb. skid and a 70lb. skid doesn't mean shit. I currently have about 300lbs of armor on my truck and will gain another ~100ish soon. That just means 400lbs. less load capacity, but frankly, I almost never max it anyway. And if I do, a couple hundred pounds above load capacity does not mean your truck will instantly crack in half and catch fire.

If you want light weight, fine, but if having it stand up to a beating is a the top priority, get the thick shit.

Just for clarification, only the IFS skid of the ATO set is 1/4". The rest are 3/16.

Ill agree with the above... There are some members on here that have destroyed the all pro skid. But there's also a lot of members on here that have it and say it has held up fine.

And I'm also just trying to keep it as light as possible because every mpg counts for me right now. I drive 25k miles or more a year and I'm averaging 20 mpg. I need to keep it as close to that as possible. I also realize that 15 lbs probably won't make that much of a difference. I'm just trying to figure out if spending the extra 100 bucks on the ato is worth it for the type of wheeling I do
