NVTTORA is going to hit up the Bitter Springs trail again, this will be a fun and easy run. Tacoma World guys are welcome to join us.

The run will start at the northerly approach which is about 40 miles east of Las Vegas, south of interstate highway 15 and west of Valley of Fire State Park.

To get there, head east on the Interstate to the Valley of Fire exit (exit 75), turn south (right), go past the Moapa Indian Reservation store (fireworks and cheap cigarettes). About three miles later, the paved road bends left but the trail proceeds straight to the Muddy Mountains. We will travel east and south until we reach North Shore Road, approx. 25 miles.

After we exit onto Northshore Rd we will head 3.5 miles south then head east onto Boathouse Rd. We will travel south to Boathouse Cove, approx. 9 miles. The water level has gone up recently and it will be interesting to see how the canyon/cove looks down there.

The plan is to meet at 9am at Moapa Indian Reservation store, the trucks can top off their fuel here. We will then leave at 9:15 am sharp.

This will be an fairly easy run and beginners are encouraged and welcome to come out. This trail has very nice scenic views and many side trails if we want to look around. Bitter Springs should take approx. 2-3 hours. Boathouse Rd should take about 1-2 hours, depending on how much time we spend at the cove. Attendees are going to be able to break off the group between the two trails onto Northshore Rd if they choose to bail a little early.

    Starting Point Map Here: http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Las+Vegas,+NV&daddr=Old+Spanish+Trail+Rd&hl=en&ll=36.458431,-114.734259&spn=0.022125,0.033088&sll=36.457533,-114.731512&sspn=0.022125,0.033088&geocode=FdYQJwIdMJoi-SnRffWkgre-gDGjebPV5tXMOg%3BFXdPLAIdwUkp-Q&mra=dme&mrsp=1&sz=15&t=h&z=15

Stock 4WD should be just fine navigating these trails, 95% of the run will be dirt roads. Last time we went down Boathouse Rd we found a stock Mercedes SUV down there and it definitely was not a G-class, lol.

I would strongly recommend spare tire, extra water and bring along some lunch. We will probably look for a shaded area along the way to stop and eat. Primary comms will be HAM and we will also use CB for those without FCC creds.

I have winch and full recovery gear if someone gets in trouble, so no worries. Trails will be mild so the worst thing I can see happening would be if someone got a little nuts and high centered their rig off the path or found some deep sand. If you have recovery gear of your own, it can’t hurt to bring it along.

cool. i believe me n latarius (steve) have done this trail, all the way to the very end. to the mouth of the lake, we had to barge through some brush, some about 5-6ft little shrubs/trees but its minor. fun trail. you end up in echo bay (the cove) if im thinking the correct trail. but im IN, sounds like fun

Great, i'd love to meet some of you guys who frequent this site and who actually wheel.

Bitter Springs trail crosses over Northshore Rd and I think you can follow Echo Bay wash all the way down to Echo Bay marina - have never followed the wash beyond Northshore but Google Earth makes it look doable.

Boathouse rd/trail had some tall grass at the last 100 yds or so last time we went down there (last year) but it should be underwater by now. :)

the trail crosses UNDER the northshore rd correct?
yes the rest of the trail going to echo bay is very easy except for the last 30 yds where its all bushes n u gotta barge through them. its easy though. its very doable. echo trail is all wash no major obstacles, soft loose gravel. great scenery, some nice wide open spots for getting sideways n getting stuck. good fun if u wanna kinda go fast. dont know if the water level affected "exiting" point at mouth of marina. should not have cuz where we got out was about 70-100yds from the water

i dont think i remember the boathouse trail/rd. does it intersect the bitterS trail?
