Goo gone not working

little bit of gas on a rag and it'll wipe off with ease. I use gas on a rag to remove everything adhesive, it works amazing.

 

Spray Plastidip on it, then peel it off when it dries, should take the glue with it.

Just make sure you wash the area about 3 times when you are finished. (With fresh soap each time)

 

Thanks for all the responses gents, I think this here is my issue. The more I look, the more it seems like all the glue is gone, but the outline is just set in the clearcoat. I will give the wd-40 a try, and afterwards I will probably have to polish the whole truck. Doesn't help that its Black either.

 

I would go with 91% alcohol, it sill not harm the paint, and it eats glue and the like pretty darn good. Thats what I used to debadge vehicles.

 

When I took mine off , I could see a ghost of the decal in the clearcoat , a couple days in the sunshine and it was gone or blended with the rest of the panel enough that I couldn't see it anymore

 

My truck is black also and the outlines did show up better on my truck as compared to my buddies silver truck. Word of advice, if you have never clay bar your truck before, go to AutoGeek.net and watch the video on how to clay bar a vehicle. Tought me a few things I didn't know.

 

Rubber eraser wheel from the autobody paint supply store on a cordless drill and some rubbing compund and polish after you are done.

This is the BEST way to do you. You can debadge an entire truck in less than 20 mintues if you know what your doin.

 

I was curious as to why more people don't recommend the 3M Eraser Wheel, that thing does wonders!

 

Because it works if used in moderation. Last time I mentioned that I got flamed by a bunch of pussies who weren't willing to try it because they heard on the internet that it would damage their paint. I wish people would try things for themselves every once in a while rather than believing everything they read on the internet.

I have used acetone many many times to remove decal adhesive and paint overspray and I have NEVER damaged the clear coat doing so. Automotive clear coat is pretty chemical resistant once it's fully cured. If you use a small amount on a rag and don't leave a lot on the paint it won't hurt it and works a lot quicker than goo gone ever will. I used acetone to remove the TRD beside decals on my truck and did zero damage to the paint or clear coat.

3M Eraser wheels work well too but they are kind of expensive and hard to find not every auto parts store carries them.

 

Rubbing alcohol or 3M adhesive remover..... both dont hurt the paint.

 

Then maybe there was something wrong with your paint. Were you using 100% alcohol or methanol? Some Detailers use alcohol to strip wax all the time and it has never hurt any of my vehicles.

 

Just rubbing alcohol. I've used it before to strip adhesive and never had a problem. That time though I tried one small spot and stripped the clear right off.

 

Interesting. I have never had an issue. I have seen that happen with acetone though. You try to buff it out?

 

I used some polishing compound and waxed it a couple times and it got better but the damage is done.

 

Acetone like Nail polish remover? I used that on a few work trucks a while ago, and there's still the spot from where I rubbed. I did use a lot and I dont think I washed it off at all though

 

I luckily found one in stock near the house. Oh and it only cost $40.00....to me that is worth not having to sit there and rub that shit off all day. Plus I barely made a dent in the thickness of the wheel from doing 5 trucks. Def worth the money!!

Jesus christ people.... the fuckin glue is gone. Stop suggestion he uses shit that is going to kill his paint... he just has an outline from where it hasn't been waxed, cleaned, or subjected to UV. Its normal and no amount of solvent is going to take it off!


Go get some Meguiars Ultimate Compound from the local auto store in the detailing section. Any other cleaning compound will work, this is just my OTC preference. Get yourself a terry cloth, and use the compound in small circles around the area by hand. After about 5 minutes of rubbing, you should be good as new. I will warn though, you might end up with one spot on your truck that is good as new and you'll want to do the rest.

Remember you will need a fresh coat of wax after youre done though.


Op, do not listen to any one of these tards above you. Every damn one of them is giving conflicting information and you, not knowing any better, is going to pull the wrong information from them. I'm about to flag every damn one of em for suggesting products that are not approved for this usage. Wake the fuck up clowns.

 

i have sinced rebadged my truck but when i first removed them, there was an imprint of the badges on the truck from the wax. i used a clay bar and it removed the imprint from the badges on the clear coat. good luck!
