Tire width question

2011 prerunner with P245 /75 R16 width. What is the max width i can put on without scrub??

Well I took the same route as you and decided not to use the search button. That being said I heard you can fit 355's in there with room to spare. On stock rims no less.

I tried search first. Saw only highth not width. I mean really what the eff does it matter. Ha........forum police ?? really?

 

265/70/16's will be the same height but wider than stock (speedo and odo will be correct). Check with tire manufacturers but I believe 265 is the widest you can put on a 7” rim. Not sure what size rims your PreRunner has.

I am running 265/75/16 and am having no issues scrubbing.

I believe 4Wheelin4banger has it right... you can't fit much bigger tire on the 7W rims. On that note, I got my tires a day before I got my rims, and its not a solid feeling running larger tires on the stock rims. I don't recommend it any bigger than you are.

Actually you screwed it up, the other poster had it correct. A 265/70R16 is the same height as the OP's original 245/75R16. Your 265/75R16's are taller. Don't believe me, check it out...

The OP looks to have the same rims as the TRD off road and a 245 series tire. The TRD Off Road has a 265 series tire so why would it be a bad thing to up to the same size that comes stock on another Tacoma package with the same wheels?

 

If MPGs are a concern expect to lose 2 MPG going to 265/70/16.Wider tires create more drag.

 

In theory yes, but my experience was no noticable mpg loses after upgrading from a 245/75 to a 265/70-16.

OP, just a confirmation that the 265/70 is about the same height as the 245/75, just a tad bigger. You can also fit a 265/75-16 in there without any rubbing. A bit taller tire, fills the wheel wells better to.

 

Part of the reason people are showing losses when going from the 245 to the 265 is the tire itself. People are swapping out the light, narrow Dunlop for a heavier tire with a more aggressive tread pattern. All factors combined will determine how much you might lose (as Lurkin mentioned, you might not lose any MPG's).

I know what he was getting at, if you have a narrow rim that was made to accept a 245 series tire, you shouldn't go up to a 265, it can cause issues. It'll work, but it's not the best set-up. The tire hangs over the rim too far but in the OP's case he's got the rims that were released from the factory with 265's on a different model so there's no harm in upsizing.
