Or how bout the establishments that garnish their walls with 50" HDTVs and then cheap out on their Dish subscriptions, broadcasting fuzzy standard signals.

    I hate that.

Anyhoo, fwiw, This was done by me at Pismo on a spacer lift. No damage.

It's catch-as-catch-can with damage and spacer lifts:

I'd like to know, out of everyone on this thread that posted pics of busted shocks on spacer lifts, how many of those pics were of your own trucks?

I'm not condoning spacer lifts for off-road use, but I think you guys are blowing this a bit out of proportion.

If all you want to do is throw on a spacer lift to keep your truck from looking like an imbalanced turd and to keep your 33's from rubbing, then go for it.

Im willing to bet that if you broke it they would claim unecessary abuse that
disqualifies it from the warranty, same thing as the ford raptor frames bending from offroading.

But if I bought a truck from a dealer with a spacer lift and it was under warranty for anything.. I would make sure I broke it

I know a few people that have had a top plate spacer responsible for their shock breakage.

And for those confused about the types of spacers, there are "Pre load" spacers, and "Top plate" spacers. The issue is the top plate spacers. Pre load spacers (Revtec) only make the ride bad.

looks good to me. I did alot of research and talked to local people and I went with the 5100 lift. Almost here and can't wait. It's your truck and you do what you want. I had several trucks with spacers and never had a problem with stock shocks. Even on my diesels! obviously you are not going to do any desert baja's with that lift and really...who is?

Most were pictures of the OEM stock TRD Bilsteins. (This probably would have happened to any shock installed I may add)
Many are confused, and although the OEM Bilstein shock is a great shock for a stock application, the 5100's are a completely different shock. If you look closely, it is a much better shock all around and a great upgrade for the price, even if you do not go with the adjustable fronts. Check out the website, you will see the difference.

I have been running a spacer lift for a few months and just ordered a "real lift" and i wish i would've done it right the first time and spent the extra money. Good luck to you but you might change your mind once you run that awhile like i did.

im not tryn to put down bilstein shocks.but this factory shock is weak at the bottom.u can see where it broke.and i think a shock lift will ride better than a spacer.but i dont think a spacer was all to blame for for this shock breakage.its a cheap way to raise your truck but dont think its a death trap to install

It depends on how you look at it. If all the shocks, coilovers, etc. made for our trucks today have the same design, it would seem the design is sound, and it functions and works. So, in theory unless the shock is asked to perform out of its normal specs, the stock bilstein shock is no weaker then any of the other shocks out there at the bottom where we see these shocks breaking. Make sense? I would tend to believe any shock mounted on the trucks in the photos would have had the same issue or result. Bilstein is a major player in the shock world, and the R&D they did to build a OEM shock for Toyota and our trucks leads me to believe the 5100's built for our trucks should really be dialed in for a "off the shelf shock". Just my guess...

Your fingers work just fine I assume, yet if you put them in a vice and broke them, would it be your fingers fault?
no, it would be the excessive forces the vice put on your fingers. Your fingers, like the shock were built
to handle what they were designed for.

Someone should have pointed this out ages ago. I don't think many of us know the difference... or that there was one, until now. This thread definitely took a major shit. Up until a few days ago, I ran the piss out of a 2.5" front spacer (PRELOAD type) and have definitely had my truck offroad a few times with it, no issues whatsover. Sure it rides like shit but it works.

exactly its not a billistine problem, this is an OME shock. I had the same set up and beat the shit out of them, even jumped them and never had a single problem.
