Cool ! 'cause it would be really embarassing to ask a soccer mom for a little help at the next game and she rolls up in an awd "whatever" and yanks your rig from the slim !

Point well taken, it's obvious that you mapped out your needs and made an informed decision, don't blame you one bit, a thinking man, cool! very cool.

If I had it to do over again, I'd get the Sport package for that reason, better wheels. These stock steelies are killing me. New rims will be on order in the new year...

Because Prerunners are COOL and I too don't have snow ,I commute etc. I also don't like the extra maintanence the 4WD has when I don't use it. I had thoughts forever about how great Prerunners look and drive. I am proud not only to be back in a Toyota , but the one that I always wanted and now have. Besides look at all the COOL people who own one!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!:D _MG_8384_edited-2Large-1_f9ce115711d659a5b005d24186e157a8098d880e.jpg

i have a 2wd prerunner with the off-road package, and my answer is simple. 4wd is too easy :D

i'm with you tacomaman, 2wd offroad racing looks more fun anyway and mudding with 4wd is too easy! my kitten has gotten through good mud in a 4wd truck, but getting through it in 2wd is a challenge :D plus the rear locker and decent tires is enough for most people, there really is no where to go mudding where i live and i'm more interested in dirt-track racing and jumping than the mud, i wont say i hate cleaning my truck but cleaning mud sucks

i'm pretty sure that with the locker engaged, it keeps you in either first or second gear. i'll check to make sure tomorrow but every burnout i've done with the locker on, it wouldnt let the speedo get over 45mph. when it rains and i dont have the locker on, the tires will spin to the tune of 95mph without the truck moving so it must be limited when the locker is engaged

ahhhh be weary of wet grass sir! the closest i ever came to actually needing to be pulled out of mud was in my backyard! i drove back there to turn around, it had been raining for a few days and we have an almost all-clay soil here, so it was slick as ice almost. i had the rear locker on and had my truck sitting sideways, trying everything i could think of to not get stuck and it took me the better part of 10 minutes but i did get out with my locker and stock tires. for comparison, my roommate got home right after i did and drove back there in his 07 crewmax 4wd tundra. it took him 10 minutes to get out with 4wd, but he still wont admit i'm a better driver!

point is grass can be deceptive depending on how much rain fell and the soil in the area

I drove over wet grass last year in my '05 Altima 3.5SE right past a full size Chevy that was spinning his wheels and couldn't move. Was overflow parking on a golf course. It was pretty funny, actually. I'd imagine it was a weight bias issue meaning, the weight in my car was over the drive wheels and 2WD trucks aren't.

However, that was the one time I've been "offroad" in probably 5 years or more which just further proves I have no need for 4WD. It all comes down to need. I simply don't feel like spending the money for something I "might" need once. That's what AAA is for. ;)

I have hit 65mph with the rear locker on... don't ask, though this a prerunner only feet since only we can engage the locker without being in 4lo (stock that is)

Sorry Dog I don't I moved to Rochester 10 yrs ago but I was down ther last Easter, ate at Flo's and also at a place ( can't think of the name ) but they use wood the cook the food, best pizza and steak and seafood I found at the beach. I miss it terribly, I used to go fishing and shrimping in the creek, me and my buddy's used to hang out on this sh#$ty little dock almost at the end of the road toward Litchfield Beach, it was stuck deep in the cattails and cook what we caught and drink a few pops, meanwhile letting all the tourist chase the neon lights. If we had a good week we would go down to Schofield hardware and buy a new tool.

yea i have turned it on and gotten up to about 60mph myself, but i'm not sure if the locker is still engaged or if the light just stays on because the button is on

the locker isnt going to disengage itself, as that would be catastrophic for the rear diff. so even if you are running 80 mph, it will still be locked(just dont hit pavement......now that would be bad:D).

i only use it if i absolutely need to anyway, but i'd imagine it'd be worse in the snow with the locker engaged than disengaged, cuz my cobra with a very tight limited slip SUCKED in the snow!! cant stress that enough!!! SUCKED!!!

yeah, snow and a locked rear diff = hella spinning.......especially in a big ol' empty parking lot. but on dry groung(and i aint talking pavement).....turn it on and drive it like ya stole it.
