Down here in the south, it is common to see folks use a bed and frame of an old pickup truck to build a cargo/utility trailer.

A few weeks ago, I saw a picture here of a TW members trailer using a truck bed and now I've been brainstorming on a dual purpose cargo/camper for myself.

Of course, it'll be color matched, I'll get wheels to match the ones on my Tacoma and use a fiberglass topper for the camping portion

I'm thinking a home built frame instead of the truck frame so that i can set the height where I want it.

What are your guy's thoughts on this?

I had a pretty nice little truck bed trailer I made from a 70's model Toyota pickup. I would have liked to have found a bed from a 1st gen Tacoma to match the body style of my 4runner, but they were going for $1000 or more just for the bed.

I sold the trailer shortly after I got my Tacoma. I didn't need a trailer anymore since I have a truck now.

looks nice!! went to the local pick and pull today. I bed goes for $65.00 without a tail gate. Saw a couple of Isuzu beds that were in good shape but all the Toyota beds were junk. the search continues...........

You Say Hill Billie but think about this Look at the Above Pictures and look at the Ground clearance that these Trailers have. The Top Picture Looks really clean I must say. If you do a lot of off roading and Trail riding you could pull one of these things Right behind you all the way. Thin you could set up one of those bed tents to sleep in or what ever you want. The possibilities are almost limitless.

I will agree that It is not the trailer you want to go hauling lawn equipment around on a daily bases. you probably wouldn't want it to put a motorcycle in either but if you have a special need that this style trailer will excel at then go for it.

That's pretty sweet set up right there.

Nothing hillbilly about them in my opinion. And those older toyota and datsun beds are great with the hooks around the bed rail.
