HELP! Buying new tacoma - Baby seat regular cab?

Hello, I am new here and planning on buying a new Tacoma tomorrow. I really want a regular cab 4x4 but have a kid on the way.

Does anyone have experience putting a baby seat in a regular cab? Will it work? The other question I have is.....Is the bench seat comfortable?

Advice? Please help! Thanks!!!

 

It will work,but think about whats beat for the baby not you. A baby should be in the back and seated in the middle. Since you want a new reg cab look for a used double cab. Good luck.

The regular cab has an airbag cutoff switch for the baby seat as well as a small child. It has the strap down loops required for a baby seat.

It'll be a little cramped but the choice is your's.

 

Anyone have the reg cab with the bench seat? Comfortable? I remember they used to offer the SR5 package with the buckets for reg cabs. Doesn't appear to be offered anymore!

 

As far as the bench seat in the regular cab. I am 6' 1", 212. I had an '06 rc and routinely drove 200 - 250 miles with little discomfort. I did not have the seat all the way back .... about 3 or 4 notches from the back.

I like the look of the regular cab but wanted a little more inside room for stuff such as golf clubs so I went with a '10 access cab.

I know the buckets were available but perhaps not in all areas. Go to the Toyota website and put in a different zip code at the "build your vehicle" tab.

Thanks! As for the baby seat in the reg cab, as long as it can be done I'd be happy. We have another "family car" when we all want to travel in the same car. I just wanted to make sure it a baby seat can be installed into a reg cab since I maybe dropping off, picking up the child from day care.

 

This is Just my .02 you will hate it, I mean you will have a diaper bag and maybe stroller and all that you wont have much room I had a regular cab truck once without a kid and I will never buy another regular cab truck period. What will happen if you guys have another kid? Dont just think for now, think for later too, because the Toyota will last you quite sometime!

 

I have a 2010 regular cab and we're planning on starting our family soon. I was in the same boat as we have a family car but I needed to make sure the truck could transport a little one if needed. I haven't had to do it yet (because we don't have kids yet) but I don't see any problem with it. As far as the bench seat, it felt a little flat at first but once I put the 5100's on the front to level the truck, it felt better. I've also heard of guys putting washers under the front of the bench seat to make it recline. The only downside to the bench that I found was I missed the armrest. I ended up making one (can post pics later today if anyone wants to see it) that can be removed quick and easy. One thing i like about the bench is if need be, you can transport two others where if you get the bucket seats you don't have the option. I was thinking in terms of if we have two kids and I want to take them sleigh riding or fishing or something there's only room for one. Some of my best memories were going fishing in my friend's fathers '89 regular cab Toyota. Wasn't the most comfortable but it was awesome jacked up on 33" M/T's.

 

I have 2 kids, 3 and 9 mos, all four of us fit fine in an access cab. I'll get more room as the kids get bigger because the 9mos old can face forward in 3 months and the 3 year old will be in a booster in 6mos-yr.

With the 09+ the backseat in an access cab scores really high for safety. Side airbags for the back etc. We go on 3-4 hr road trips regularly and fit all four of us + 3-4 kids bags. I also have a lockable storage container that I throw in the back when needed.

I mention this because the access cabs run several thousand lower than en equally equipped double cab ... more than a regular but maybe you can afford the access?

 

I have a 2010 2 door and a 2009 4 door Taco, both are 4x4's. the 4 door is more comfortable for long trips with its bucket seats compared to the 2 door's bench seat. I am 6'3" and 205, I have enough leg room in the 2 door.

 

according to the toyota website that regular cab 4x4 manual transmission - does not come with a airbag cutoff switch. does this mean that I cant put a baby seat in it??? Im confused!

 

This is begining to be a journey isn't it? My '06 had a cutoff for that reason. My '10 access cab has one for that matter.

I went to the website myself and could only find in the notes (#6) not to put a baby seat in the front.

In a regular cab you have no choice. Best thing to do would be to go onto a lot and take a look for yourself. The cutoff, which uses your key, would be on the middle-right under the vent.

yes, I will have to do that. The only problem is no one around central ny has a reg cab. Apparently, one is on order and should be here in a few weeks

 

I have an '11 reg cab, and the airbag is activated by weight in the passenger seat (or on the passenger side); my son is 4 and he uses a booster/carseat and I have no issue with it at all.

While it's not my wife's car in terms of comfort, it's more than fine as a truck. The ONLY gripe I have is the lack of a fold down center armrest.

I say go for it; car seat will be a non-issue.

 

Since you have a family car you should be fine, but it's definitely not the safest place for your little one. We have one 6 month old and our double cab with a cap is usually packed full of crap if we're heading out for more than a couple of hours.

 

my 2011 XRunner (regular cab still) has an airbag cutoff switch. i think u will be fine
