    (sorry if this has been asked often, I looked but couldn't find the specific answers)

    I am in the market for an 06, 07, 08 Tacoma double-cab, 4WD, 6-spd (won't be a daily driver), and I have a few questions.

    1) There are 6-buttons/blanks in two rows on the left side of dash (left of the steering wheel). If a truck has all functioning buttons (i.e. not blanks) what are those buttons for?

    Numbering them from left to right starting with the top row, I think
    1=fog lights, 2=??, 3=bed power,
    4=??, 5=clutchless start, 6=??

    2) Steering wheel controls: some models have them, but I've only seen them on the left hand side of the wheel. what do the left side controls, control? if there are right side controls, what do they control, if anything?

    3) Some models have the hood scoop, some don't. What packages or models includes the hood scoop?

    4) of the three years, 06, 07, 08, are there common problems/things to watch out for in any particular model year?

    thanks all

    let me just say that a 6spd DC are hard to come by, for sometime i didn't think toyota made them, i know one of the buttons you did not know was the differential lock on the axle, there are two packages other than SR5 which is standard on the DC, they are TRD Off road and TRD Sport,

    those are straight from Toyota.com, all you have to do is put in the vehicle both can also come with satellite radio and bluetooth

    the TRD off road it has off road supension and a locking rear differential and the grille and bumper are chrome, 16in wheels

    the TRD sport has "sport" suspension, has the hood scoop and has color keyed grille and bumper 17in wheels

    those are the main differences, you did not mention this but the bed is 5ft standard, the long bed is only on the auto trans, some don't like the short bed,

    Perhaps some of you already knew what those buttons were for. My curiosity finally paid off. I found a truck that has buttons #4 & 6, those were the only two I had never seen before.

    So for those like me who were curious
    going from left to right and top to bottom)
    1 - fog lights, 2 - locker, 3 - bed power
    4 - stability control (off), 5 - clutch bypass, 6 - rear side curtain airbag (switch off)

    Unfortunately I've still not found my Tacoma. It appears the manual crew cabs were popular everywhere but CA (plenty avail in other states, but I can't import a non-CA emissions vehicle). Someone who lives in another state want to serve as the registered owner for me? :D j/k of course (or am I? ;) )

    I am tempted to buy a 06 Tundra crew instead, since I can get one for the same price and same mileage in CA. only problem is my spot in the garage is only long enough for a short bed Tacoma. looks like the wife's SUV may have to park outside. :D

    oh, and thanks for all the welcomes.
