Compilation of stupid in my area

This kid got his Yukon stuck on bald tires and left it there.

a month later


This guy out on a local mountain alone, might have gotten out but he took assistance from some locals.


What a total shit show and I was there for some of it. Found 3 rigs stuck on top of a local peak while I was out on my quad with a friend. Two 4runners on 35s, a chain and no shovel between em and a full sized chevy with a driveway snow shovel and a 2x4, all stuck. The 4runners get out and can't manage to pull the chevy out so they leave. Chevy calls a buddy, Ford Raptor shows up, promptly gets stuck, only has a small strap with hooks. I give the guys my number. Go get my truck. Let the local 4x4 guys know what's going on and head up there. I get stuck on the way up being a fool, get out quick with my hi-lift.

While I was away, a Bronco shows up, gets stuck behind the other two trucks and calls 911. 911 sends SAR. SAR shows up right as I get myself out. Says I should go down, they're there to ferry people down, no vehicle recoveries.

Next morning Jeep Liberty shows up out of no where? No recovery points or gear.

Carnage ensues as a local 4x4 enthusiast pulls him out.


Here is a Jeep Patriot without any form of recovery points, it was abandoned on the same trail as the Yukon about 1000 feet below. It's still there buried in snow the same as the Yukon.



This one was a little different. The stepson of a guy I know was out shooting. As he went to back up his truck started sliding on the super slick ice. No idea how he ended up in the ditch but it happened. Son was in the military and thanked everyone who helped him out profusely. Good guys, shit happens.


It was quite the recovery.

This guy I know through the local 4x4 forums. He and a buddy were out fucking around? Neither of em had shit for recovery gear. This is the second time I've pulled out the excursion. The first was out of snow, when he blew out his front hubs. This time they were out playing in what could best be described as a drainage basin, while it was raining. Fortunately they were 200 feet from the paved road and knew the right people. Maybe he'll learn his lesson.

It took a strap to get out the chevy and my winch and two others to get out the excursion.



I can only imagine what was happening minutes before hand in some of these.

"No honey, it's 'Trail Rated' we have 4x4."

I think a lot of these people must either not be thinking at all or see these stock 4x4s in the commercials doing incredible things and think they can do the same. It's easy to get in over your head quick, as I've found out myself at times. Being prepared is the best way to mitigate the inevitable stuck that happens with driving off pavement.

Now I know where to go if I need spare parts

i need to pick up my winch and recovery gear before the winter.

my list consists of a warn 9,000 lb winch, a high lift jack, arb traction boards, arb snatch strap, lol and a spare tire and carrier.

 

The ARB sand mats? I'd go for maxtrax or waffle boards, I got the waffle boards myself and I can't express how great they work. Hardly need the winch as long as you have the hi-lift and a lifting point.


I guess you can be like me and pull random people out all winter now

I have a strap, High Lift jack, and I still wont push it yet. I've been in some deep mud and thought I'd need to get pulled out but I managed to rock it out. I wont start doing some serious off roading till I get better tires, lift, bumpers, sliders and winch.

 

easily the best part. Why did SAR even come out? To rescue them from hypothermia?

 

It was getting dark and the ground was covered in snow?

Beats me but they had about 20 rigs at the base of the road/mountain. They also had about 5 ATVs, a RZR, a Unimog, and a snowcat.

When I got down the Sheriffs flagged me down and I let em know what happened. They praised me for being a good samaritan and being prepared and they were pissed at the rest. Probably for ruining Sunday night dinner.

I can't wait for more snow and stupid people!

 

I love the guys who just left there trucks up there. Were they planing on leaving them there for the winter, and driving there other trucks for 4 months? Nice job on being part of that shitshow.

 

who is the stupid fuck who tied the tow strap to his roof Would have been less damage if it was strapped to the rear axle/IFS rear?

 

A pretty decent guy and experienced wheeler. He asked the owner where he wanted him to pull from since he was lacking recovery points and that is where the guy asked him to put it.

 

That's funny. I've had to pull out people at those exact same spots on Peavine and DV. Usually FS Blazers and wranglers for some reason.

Some kid 'left' his newer Blazer in the lot at our Mt. Rose Cabin this past winter. I have no idea how he managed to get 200' off the highway in 4' of snow... but it sat there for a week before the ski resort got it out with their equipment.

 

Dont want to be an ass but even if he asked you why would you hook it up there... You can see the rear axle i dont see how they could come to the use the body to free it conclusion...
