supercharger questions

hey tw i am thinking about supercharging my 04 taco, it will have 100 thousand miles and i was lookin at the new URD supercharger. they said it would give me 100 more horse than the trd supercharger. anything i should worry about or is this just a bad idea, comments are welcome!

yes sir its for the first gen, i called them the other day and they are still testing it and it will be out in about 90 days

 

Pretty sure URD doesn't make it for the 1st genres.

Badass? Yes.
Overpriced at $6000? Definitely.

At half that price, I think the TRDs have a much higher "back for the buck" quotient, but I'd like to know what they're doing to squeeze "100 more horse than the trd supercharger" out of the same engine...

 

Gadget who I spoke too said it will make 50 to 100 more horse cause they make the supercharger draw in more air easier and more efficient than the Trd one. And for the pricing it's 5 grand for everything. The supercharger and the 7th injector. The trd charger just comes with the charger not the injector kit.

 

Yea the TRD charger is really inefficient. Im sure the URDs one will be much more efficient thus more power.

The URD is a Centrifugal design supercharger and the TRD is a Roots design so we are comparing apples to oranges. Its really going to come down to what you want: Low end or High end power.

The Centrifugal supper charger offers very poor low end boost compared to the Roots design but excel in the higher RPM range. However, its high end boost doesn't compete with a proper turbo. For this reason I say centrifugal is a retarded design, and completely useless. It basically takes the weakness of the supercharger and turbo charger and combines them.

If you want low end boost, the Roots design (TRD) will destroy any Centrifugal chargers. Typically, you can expect max torque at ~2000 RPMs or less with a Roots supercharger. This would be your best bet if you plan on off-roading, towing, hauling, or just trucking in general.

Further, the TRD has a liquid to air intercooler built in to eliminate pre-detonation. Im not sure, but I dont think the URD come with an intercooler. For the amount of boost this supper charger is pushing, you must get an intercooler as well or you can kiss your engine and/or any potential performance gains goodbye.

If you want more performance from your TRD supercharger, just get a bigger pulley for more boost. Its not hard to get 300+ HP from the TRD charger if you do it right.

I have just read that the eaton fans that the TRD uses are the best..that what i meant by efficiency lol Me personally...i don't think you can beat a turbo that is fit to the motor and has the right mod ect. i own a supra and know this to bad turboing tacos is hard..

ill prolly end up with a trd SC tho it'll be better either way.

Its very obvious that Toyota designed this engine (3.4L) for low end power (190 Hp vs 220 ft/lbs torque).

Just to add/change what I said above, the URD uses a new drive mechanism that provides better low, mid, and high boost (Rotrex). While I still say the TRD will give better low end boost, the URD wouldn't be a bad choice either. However, you still would have to invest in an inter-cooler (not something you want hanging off the front of your truck when off-roading). It would be a nice addition to an X-Runner, but not a TRD-Offroad truck.
