a deep cycle is the only battery that has a chance of surviving prolonged use with a bad altornator, and even then, they don't like it, so the sooner the better.

I either get off Tomorrow at 11 or 230. Either way I'm gonna go get the battery checked. Hopefully everything goes well and it was just a lose battery connection. Don't get paid till next week so I wouldn't even be able to fix it for a week at the earliest.

i don't know if it's practical where you work, but if you can, purchase one of these and take your battey out and hook it to this during the day.
it'll either recharge it slowly and safely, or it will maintain a healthy charge. i have a couple universal 12 volt batteries that i leave hooked up to one of these whilethey aren't in use. helps tremendously with battery life, and charges them well too.

I work at a college as a computor tutor. Park in a garage, not sure if there's any power. Might look into getting that thing just incase.

I just went out and everything seemed normal. Didn't fire the truck up but the interior lights came on when I opened it and the keyless worked. After I jump started it before my initial post I drove/let it idle for 15mins or so. The ground did seem a little lose, perhaps that was the cause.

I'm hoping as is well and it was something silly that I'm making a big deal over. Still gonna get it checked out at Autozone.

On a positive note, I just applied for my first credit card. Instantly approved. The interest rate sucks, and I have a $300 monthly limit, but I need to build credit anyway. Just a no thrills basic student credit card. All I plan on doing with it is buying gasoline and paying it off each month. Thankfully I'm used to living off of almost no money so I don't have the temptation to go out and blow a lot of money. A fancy meal out for me is getting a combo meal when I get fast food.

Yeah so could I. I could also spend all my money very quickly in there so I've gotta be careful haha. Yeah a couple redfish and flounder, so not too bad. Definitely better than nothing  Do you fish?

haha, i hear ya....i practically drool over everything, wallet in hand when i'm there.

you eat the fish, or just having some catch and release fun?

i have too many hobbies, fishing being one of them. not a lot of time for it recently, but i try.
haven't really gotten into surf fishing, but i have a kayak that i love taking out and fishing from. my family is real into boating, so even though our powerboat is set up for wakeboarding, i'll take it out for fishing every once in a while. there are also a good number of public fishing piers near my place in FL, so there's nothing better than a couple beers with your buddies with a line in the water. sometimes i even go four a couple hours on my way to work in the morning.

Yeah it's hard not to haha.

I eat them. Fishing and hunting are my two main hobbies. It's what I love to do, I grew up doing both of them. I was in the boat and in the woods with my dad literally before I could walk haha. We've got a flats boat that I do a decent amount of inshore fishing out of, but we also have a contender (open fisherman style boat) and most of my fishing now is offshore. But I hear ya man theres nothing like it.

i'm hoping to get a used center console in a year or two. something small, but big enough to have 4 or 5 people out on for a day of ocean fishing. maybe get one that needs a little fixing up or something to help with cost.
so with that said, how do you like the contender? what size do you have?

i'm thinking somewhere arount 16 to 18 feet with a single outboard. they're pricey, but i have a soft spot for honda outboards.

I have an 18' center console myself. It would be a little crowded for 5 people so you probably wouldn't want anything smaller than that.

Yeah I gotcha it's definitely nice to be able to do that. And I would think you could probably find some kind of bay boat, which is what I would recommend, for a decent price if you're willing to fix it up a little bit. I love the contender it's perfect for what we do. It's called the 23T (23 tournament), which is a 25 foot boat. It's got twin 150 yamahas on it. We go out to the ledge, which is 50-60 miles here, pretty often, and that boat handles it great. It's definitely strictly a fishing boat though. No extra seating or cushions or anything (the girls in my family aren't quite as fond of it haha).

If you're wanting to go out in the ocean as well as some inshore fishing though, I would probably recommend a 20-22 foot or so bay boat. that's what a whole lot of people around here have, and it's probably the most versatile type of fishing boat you can get. Pathfinder, action craft, and a bunch of others make a good one. My buddy has a Kenner that works real well for what it sounds like you're looking for, and they're not too expensive.

Sorry I get carried away sometimes talking about this stuff haha.

    cool guys!

i'm really not too worried about comfort, just functionality. more cofortable to stand during all the bouncing around anyway.

ideally i'd like to get a used boston whaler. we've owned two of those in the past, and they are absolutely indestructable. unfortunately, the people who have them love them, so they're harder to find in the used market.

i worked as a yacht mechanic/repair man in Annapolis a few years back, so doing all the restore/fix-up myself isn't an issue. if i'm lucky, i might even still be able to get some discounts on parts from the distributors we used up here and ship the parts to FL.

i gues i was a little low on the length becasue boston whalers tend to be short and wide compared to an equivelant deep V hull from another company. i'll keep that in mind though and look for something in the low 20s for the non whalers.

nice, you see those all over the bay up here, extremely functional and versitile.

one of my all time favorite open hulls is the whaler outrage 370. i would love to own one of these some day. we're talking a quarter million for one though, so that'll be a while

yea Whalers are definitely bad ass, my family looked into getting one some years ago. My dad wants to get a Grady White.

I really like Parker Sport Cabins because of their versatility and the ability to have some form of shelter from the elements. Hopefully one day I can own one.

yeah, enclosure sure is nice. years ago when we had a 16' whaler, we got stuck out in so many storms that my dad had a custom rain shield made that bridged the gap from the windshield to the bimini. it was clear, so you could still stand up to drive and see without that needle prick feeling you get going fast int he rain.

I got neutral repped for the sig that I had last night. It doesnt surprise me coming from the person that left it. I guess someone bitched about it and had the mods change it. Really stupid I think. SMH...

lol, it made me twitch every time it flashed, but it wasn't horrible enough to complain to a mod

Damn I missed out on the boat talk...

Currently run a 21 ft. Sea Pro bay boat. Have had it 20 miles off shore.

Hopefully will be adding a 23-25 foot Contender to our fleet in the near future..Plan to run twin 150 yammi 4strokes..

Whalers are definitely great boats. They hold up forever, like you said. Yeah 16-18' is really just good for inshore stuff on most boats, except maybe off the beach or near shore on a calm day. Definitely not 5 people. I'm with you I'd say 20-22' (or bigger, depending) on anything except maybe a whaler.
