TPMS Issues

I have two sets of wheel / tires for my Taco. But I have only 1 set of TPMS sensors. I do not want to purchase another set of TPMS sensors they are too expensive.

I wish I could just disable this stupid TPMS light.

Is there a better way to fool my TPMS system so that stupid light doesn't blink when I do not use the tire wheel combo that does not have the sensor?

 

Disable the light! I put a write up on how to do it , just search "Disabled TPMS on my 2008" Since yours is a 2006 - you'll hook the blue wire to a ground to kill the light.

 

put them in a pipe bomb. plenty of info on this site on how to make one. I also have 2 sets of tires & rims. did the pipe bomb thing and have had no problems.TPMS light went out and stayed out.

 

I liked the pipe bomb idea too since I wanted TPMS to tell me if the spare was low. But there's one big problem with the pipe bomb: the sensor batteries still fail with time and can not be replaced. That happened to me... at least I think it was the battery on one of my sensors, never figured that out precisely.

I ended up putting a piece of tape over the dash LED. Taking the instrument cluster out was surprisingly easy... did it in about 20 min's.

 

I have two sets of tires & rims (winter & summer) and run the tpms only in my winter rims (stock steelies w/ sensors).
It does trigger a light when I get out of range but around town or all day at work, park 20 miles away from tires/rims/sensors in storage & no light.
My truck is a 2006 too w/ a sensor in the spare. Maybe your spare tire is low? Also have had my stored wheels trigger the light while in storage needed to add air & light went off.

 

My spare has a TPMS sensor? I will look into that.

Anyway I run summer tires with no sensors. In the winter I put the stock wheel/tires on w/sensors.

I hate that stupid lite and will probably just disable it. One way or the other.

 

yes in 2006, toyota put a sensor in the spare. I flipped mine so it was easier to check and less of a pita in the winter time if it triggered the light. The 2006 models you are able to ground the system out behind the glove box. It is documented here somewhere and at toyotanation. I never bothered to do it with mine. When it triggers I just put black tape over it until it resets.
Yes I run mine in the winter time also.
Summer alloys have no sensors.
I've run them this way for the last 4 years no problems other than a light every once in awhile for the spare or out of range of the sensors/tires in storage.
