Problem with braking over bumps/ruts

Hey Gang,

I am having and issue with my brakes and I will try to explain it as best as I can. I have noticed that if I am going over ruts/bumps in the road while braking it feels like my braking power goes down to like 20% and I really have to slam on the brakes to stop. The last time it happened is when I was braking on and area that had a bad transition from asphalt to concrete (Freeway overpass). I don't know if its something with the ABS, something is loose, or what. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

OME lift and Dakar Spings in the rear
No aftermarkets UCA
Just got new pads and the rotors turned (Not related to issue just needed them done)

Please let me know if you need more info on my rig.

 

Could it be bad shocks? If tire is in air or not firmly on ground the brakes won't get enough grip.

 

I'm gonna guess crappy ABS. I've had some close calls in the winter and rainy roads myself.

Yeah mine does the same if I brake over big bumps. Good ol' abs....terrible for stopping distance but good for a sraight line/control.

 

ABS. There is an ABS kill switch mod for when off roading around here somewhere. Search for it.

 

For the guys that say its ABS, is this just normal behavior or should I get it looked at? I mean there has been a couple of times where it definitely got my attention.

 

You should try it on snow , it's horrible for stopping distance

 

When you go over ruts/bumps, the tire has far less traction, so the ABS is probably releasing the brakes to avoid lockup.

If you actually did a scientific comparison - going over the same stretch of road with ABS off then on, back to back, the stopping distances will probably be the same.

 

No I think you will be fine. I know my abs has woke me up more than once, its rather annoying but it is just sensing wheel motion.....its really bad for stopping on snow as oz said.

It is normal operation. When you hit a bump the ABS computer thinks you are losing traction

 

If your truck beeps at you, and you see flashing lights on your gauge cluster, when this is happening then it could be VSC activating.
