    Hey guys,

I just hit a road block in my tire selection. i'm getting Eibach springs @.85(5100s) + half inch spacers, 1.5" or 2" AAL for TSB, Spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers so i can fit 285/70/17 tires on my Sport 17" Alloys.

My Final selection was BFG all terrain kos 285/70/17-D, but it only comes in Black Sidewall!

I really wanted the White Sidewall, but its only available for E load (Also 275/70/17- E load). Based from Tire rack, the weight of the E load is 3 lbs more per wheel, tho the 275-E load is 1lb less per wheel. Could be that 275 would prevent lil more probs that 285, plus it weighs less...

Help! lol....is E rated that harsh of ride to sacrifice looks/size? I was really set I wanted these tires to pop with the sidewall but I must choose soon.

    Thanks,
    Eddy

I wouldn't worry about 3 lbs difference in weight.
Where do you drive? If always on the road, get the softer ride.
I am on crushed gravel roads every day where cars get flats all the time. I go with E rated tires which hold up much better.

I've got the E rated BFG A/T's and don't mind the ride at all. Going from the p rated BFG rugged trails the handleing is way better with the stiffer sidewalls and doesn't follow the ruts in the road like the p rated did. The truck seems more stable and doesn't feel like I'm leaning into the corners anymore. I'm running 36 psi front/ 34 rear.

F-that, I wouldn't put E rated tires on a truck as light as a Tacoma. It'll ride like a dump truck. D is even overkill by far but would ride slightly better. The Eibach/5100's ride stiffer than stock anyways, throw on a much much stiffer tire and it'll ride like a hay wagon. Just my $0.02, good luck, I wouldn't put them on my truck!

Well good to hear its not terrible hehe. I felt this conrering change when switching to Bilstein 5100s. Hm this is a toughie, I do have a prerunner too so more under the load rating.

And aren't those 255s pizza cutters? lol

Not saying it'll cause problems, they'll work fine as far as tires go but they will certainly ride rough! I'm constantly in the city so that's probably what's driving my bias opinion. Lots of very bumpy and choppy roads, no way I'd want E-rated tires. If you're in the country and/or tow and haul heavy then go for it. E-rated is still overkill in my opinion.

Sometimes that is your only option in certain tires and sizes

I know what you mean, I've been looking for a narrower tire for my 17" stock wheels and and running into that issue :(

What's the pros vs cons of an inch narrower tire? Is it mainly to avoid using spacers? Any better on highway? offroad?

OK, I 1 million percent disagree with everything Pugga just said. I have the Eibach springs with 5100's at .85 and my ride is TONS more comforable on the road than stock. I also have the rear TSB with Toytec AAL with 5100's in back to. I also happen to be running BFG AT KO's 285/75-16 and at 35-40 psi they ride great, you dont feel a single bump in the road, they ride butter smooth. I pumped them up to 50psi for more milage on the freeway and I do feel every little tar snake in the road but its still not a bad ride.

I air them down to 18-20 psi to wheel and they do great. I have 7k miles on mine and they are starting to get chewed up because I wheel the shit out of them but its a great set up, its better than stock, and you will have no problem with it at all.
