@Enigmaaron thats a nice looking place you got there and you're prob REAL close to me i'm over near Wagontown. I'd be down for a mod day. No mods to my taco yet, but im pretty mechanically inclined and would help spin wrenches or help however i can to start learning my way around these rigs!

 

anyone up for assisting me painting my rims?
does anyone else have issues with rust bubbles forming on the offroad rims?

I'm going to be attempting to change my timing belt Saturday if anyone wants to heckle or use my driveway/garage to do some work. Free beer

 

my driveway's not level...i hate it, it's super long but narrow

 

I have expirience changing out timing belts on a 2000 tundra. Can't be much different than Tacomas. I pick my son up friday from Pittsburgh, then back to spring city, birthday party thing on saturday sometime, then hershey park sunday, then back to pittsburgh monday. So I wish I could heckle wit ya, but I may be able to offer tech support if needed.

My driveway is a nightmare, thought I was gonna drop the truck takin AAL's off. Are the OR rims you speak of the aluminum alloys in your pic? You shouldn't have rust bubble issues as long as you lay down a good base coat then seal it with some clear coat. I'd be willin to help ya for when ya wanna do it.

 

i have friend of mine that repairs rims and paints them as his job. Depending on how bad they are he'd prob be reasonable in price

 

Guthriesville is in my backyard LOL. Not a drinker but depending what time you're doing it i may be able to give ya a hand if ya need it. Im prob not free until after 4 though

i'll check with him or i'd be down with giving you a hand if ya wanna try to tackle it yourself. From my experience with painting its 90% prep 10% technique LOL

 

More like 99% prep. Prep is def the hardest part. Ya gotta get the clear finish sanded to get good adhesion, but that will take care of the rust as well. Then hit it with some mineral spirits. Get a good primer and double coat the primer, triple coat the color, then double coat the clear coat. The drying time is the longest part, ya need a large amount of beer in between, the sun helps too, but beer works best.

 

Sounds good, I want to stick with flat black which rattle cans would be best?

 

i have had good luck with Duplicolor paint. They have specific wheel paint im pretty sure. Prob be best to get the primer,paint and clear all from the same company just so you dont have compatibility issues. Duplicolor can be found at Auto Zone, Advanced Auto Parts etc

 

I used the duplicolor wheel paint on my stock centercaps, primer, 3 color coats, 3 clear coats... 24 hrs to dry, chipped the next day...

 

DAMN!! LOL IDK i've always had good luck with it

 

shit we sanded down my buddys rims, 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of hammer black finish... still good after a month without chips.

 

Yup, just my luck, i think maybe because theyre plastic, not aluminum... who knows... dont care much now anyways i got aftermarket rims..

 

Is anyone here from the Simpson/Forest City/Uniondale area with a Mag. Grey, possibly stock other than tint?? waved to me once by the Viaduct and once last saturday on 171??
