MPG performance?!!!!!

Mkay I already got a CAI(K&N) on my tacoma and trying to replace the stock exhaust with one that sites like "autoanything" recommend, gibson? magnaflow? hmmmm?? just looking for MPG improvement pretty much, oh also, what is a good Tonneau cover? thanks guys.....

 

A mileage indicator (such as a Scanguage II) and the Right Foot Mod would, together, make the biggest difference.

 

I would replace the headers and keep the stock muffler. You will pick up power, MPG and still stay quiet.

 

I put a stock replacement K&N Air Filter and a Magnaflow muffler on and my MPG went from 17 to 19 in town.

Your results may vary.

Use the search function on this page and you will find tons of posts about performance and MPG's, bottom line, most mods on here such as cat-back exhaust and cold air intakes are not going to make a whole lotta difference until you are above 3000 rpm and wide open anyways. The aftermarket intakes actually confuse your trucks computer and it will send more gas into the engine which drives MPG's down. My set up is this, K&N 63 Series intake, 3 inch Ernie Banks cat-back and URD MAF Calibrator (which corrects the data coming from the MAF sensor before it goes into the trucks computer (ECU)), if this sounds complicated, it is, my end result, yes my truck is faster than stock definitely but toying with the stock configuration requires planning. On the other hand, if you really want to get a lot out of the truck and you have the bucks, the TRD Supercharger is the only sure ticket. There is more performance to be had but not a whole bunch more MPG's to be had. Good luck in your search.

I did this and determined my best mpgs come from keeping it under 2k.
Lots of real world testing done here, the truck hasn't changed in 6 yrs.
Have a tonneau & that doesn't matter either.
Put the improvement mpg money in the bank for gas fill ups.

 

I doubt if any of the modifications, other than the "right foot mod," will improve mileage enough to offset the expense of the modification.

bolt on performance mods will help MPG SLIGHTLY, im talking not even 1mpg. so if its just for the mpg its not worth it

 

Best MPG investment you can make...

I had minor gains when I bought a soft tonneau but if you figured out the pay-off it wasn't worth it. I wouldn't buy a tonneau just for MPG's.

have both the trd cai and exhaust. only saw a difference of 1-2 mpg in city. hw didnt have any difference.

 

Well I have a Volant cai and just put a Dynomax super turbo muffler. Now I get 21-22 mpg (that's with mixed driving). Granted I use the Ultragauge more than I expected. I believe the instant mpg helps me lighten the pedal.

Volant CAI = no significant increase in mpg maybe 0.3-0.5
Dynomax ST Muffler = 0.8 mpg difference

Maybe I will get a URD MAF and see what that does.
